External HDD doesn´t work fine with Xbox Obe

I have a Seagate Usb 3.0 2TB HDD and I used to play my games in it. Otherwise, sice a few weeks ago, some games like Forza 5, Assassins Creed Unity and others, began to fail.



They crashes in the middle of loading, with no warning, sound or someone like that.



I already have deleted the game and reloaded but the trouble persists. I´ve restored my Xbox but noting happend.



I´ve readen about this on internet and a lot of users have same problems with external hdd. What´s going on? What can I do for fix this?

No, this won´t work.

The Xbox One doesn´t support external HDD´s yet. You have to join Xbox Live with your gamertag, after that you can download your gamertag on the Xbox One. Can´t you connect your Xbox 360 with a wire to your router? If not you can use a Xbox 360 of a friend
with an internet connection.

 

Xbox is slow and freezing.

Isn´t a solution that doesn´t implies to format the HDD?

 

Lack of Defrag possibly, IDK. But updates overwrite older updates, and could leave... Ummm... I will call it speaks of old info in the file. And from what I read here on the forums. Games require a ton of updates.

Thus if I had said problem, I would try deleating the game, updates and the like and reDL again and see how that pans out 1st before adding a New external drive and the like.

 

External Hard Drives are meant for STORAGE, not to run games off of, you're lucky to get 6 months out of even the most robust models if this is what you're using them for. Having a 500GB HD on a supposedly "next generation" console is one of the many flaws
associated with them, should've been atleast 1TB MINIMUM...

From what I am reading, SATA connections (Internal HDD) vs USB 3.0 external. The USB 3.0 is quicker and more efficient than SATA connections. If so, and Arkham is also correct, then external HDD manufactures better get with times IMO.

That leads me to the question. Are any of you X1 owners with external hdd's having problems playing games from your external HDD's, if so, or not. What External HDD do you have?

 

Of course, it's the "external HDD manufactures better get with times" and couldn't possibly be a Glaring Design Oversight by Microsoft when they first engineered the ONE. The 500GB HD on the ONE is even more insufficient after factoring in the sizable chunk
reserved for System Resources. Games, Updates & DLC are all getting larger rather rapidly, Microsoft Engineers should've been more focused on the Games than the crApps. External HD Manufacturers are crafting reliable devices designed for extra STORAGE, they
perform well for many years when used for their designated function. Adding External HD Support to the ONE wasn't any different from Microsoft's many other Band-Aid solutions designed to hide the ONE's numerous inadequacies, "Next Generation" indeed...

Arkham is wrong with everything he stated, Iv'e had a seagate 3TB external USB 3.0 HDD connected to my one since june last year, i have had no problems what so ever, games load faster and run perfect from an external source, all 60 odd games i have are on
the external drive and i play them from there.

USB 3.0 transfers at a faster rate than sata 2 (which is what connects the internal drive). Microsoft stated back when they releasesd support for external drives that you should play them from there instead of the internal drive as it would improve load
times within a game.

thats not relevant to what you stated and in no way backs up what you were saying arkham, yes people have been having problems with external drives, im not disputing that but your statement that you would be lucky for it to last 6 months is whats in question
in my response plus the fact that of the 12 million consoles sold world wide and where only seeing problems from a couple hundred users at most says to me that those individual drives for those users have fault of some kind, it's not a major problem, if it
was there would be thousands of complaints about it and that just is not the case.

 

The vast majority of external hard drives are made for storage not continuous data transfer. They are made as small as possible and placed in little plastic cases with no ventilation. They will get hot and at some point you'll end up with corrupted data
or a complete failure.

This is why PC gamers will upgrade their internal drives ( that are not enclosed and in a case with multiple fans) rather than simply plugging an external into a USB port.

Unless your using a docking station or one of the aluminum cased externals with ventilation ports your best bet is to use the external for storage only so you won't need to re-download your games.....or buy the smallest, cheapest external you can find for
the decreased load times and assume that you'll be replacing it on a regular basis over the life of your console.

 

And the arguments about the speed of the external devices is also "not relevant" for it's not the speed that's the problem, it's about the stress being put on a device that wasn't designed to run games for extended periods of time and will break down after
lengthy use. The "12 Million" number is considerably smaller in reality, but that's OK because most equate Consoles Shipped to Consoles Sold to boost the numbers. I'm sure if I looked harder I could find many more instances of XBOX users having difficulties
with External Storage but spamming is against the forum ToU. I don't have the time but there's very likely "thousands of complaints", I only provided one small slice from these forums, one that is 5 pages long and covers an extended period of time.

The OP even remarked on finding "a lot of users have same problems with external hdd" and has likely spent considerably more time searching for answers than you or I have. If an External HDD is your Primary HD for Gaming then it's only a matter of time
that the unnecessary stress on the device will cause it to fail long before it would've had it been used for what it was designed, and that's for storage not gaming. Even if your "12 Million" stat was accurate, you assume that all "12 Million" are using an
External HDD for extended hours of gaming, or that none of them understand the function of an External HDD and don't use it accordingly...

Your right the vast majority are for storage only at the same time those paticular drives are powered through the usb cable for the most part while drives with there own ventilation are powered using an A/C Adapter, those drives you can use to play the games
from, if people took the time to do even the basic research they will know this and should be fine barring any manufacturing fault with those drives.

 

well considering that the most requested feature was for more storage we can assume that at least 20-30% of all consoles have external storage i never stated that all of them did, as for the whole 12million sold as of january over 11 million had been sold
through to customers, granted im not going of the best place for that because it's always a rough estimate from vgcharts but technically they report the numbers that store sell not what they purchased from microsoft or sony, while what you state about a drive
failing after extensive use is correct that goes for every device on the market be it a harddrive, console, pc or dvd/bluray player, just to clarify my external is designed for extended use.

 

No troubles with mine. I leave most games I play a lot on the internal and only just ran AC4 black flag this morning off the external. I haven't played it for a good 6 months I think and it loaded and played fine. Running games for a few hours at a time
from an external USB powered drive should have little to no effect on the drives lifespan. Maybe running it in an extremely hot environment for 12 hours might but general gaming no. 6 months ? Lol give me s break guys.
