External HDD disconnecting while streaming

I'm using my 2tb external to stream movies as I have done in the past on my 360. For some unknown reason, the movie will stop and the XB1 says that the external device has disconnected. So, I turn on the controller and press the "A" button to select the
external hdd that is available, even though the system just said that it was disconnected. Then I find the movie that I was watching and unfortunately have to find where I was, since the XB1 doesn't offer "resume playback" yet. I waited over a year from when
the console was released to purchase one. Thinking, Microsoft might listen to their customers and apply updates to the "latest and greatest" media replacing machine. The menu for the media player is a nightmare, a list would be more user friendly and a lot
faster. Or you can giver the user the choice of a list or the looks of Windows 8. I think the functionality of the 1 has taken a step back from the 360. Yes, blu-ray is supported but not in 3D. I look forward Microsoft applying the changes that their customers
request. They made the change from 1080i to 1080p on the 360, so I know that they are fully capable of fixing these minor issues. Thank you for listening to me vent and for any replies that might help fix my hdd from disconecting!

Hi!

If you have the game installed on an external HDD, try disconnecting the HDD and connecting it to a different USB port. Turn on the console and try to start the game again.

 

Xbox One will not connect to Wifi

Thought I was going mad too.

I have spent the day trying to get my XBOX ONE back online....

I never thought of disconnecting the external HDD ( I removed kinect too) and it reconnected to the wifi.

The solution makes no sense, I don't know why the external HDD is an issue.

 

I'm having the same problem playing media via USB from my Seagate wireless plus 2TB. It randomly disconnects and shows message, but after pressing A, the HDD is still connected. Xbox support suggested to unselect "turn off storage" in the power and startup
settings. That didn't work. I'm still looking for a fix myself. Glad I'm not the only one having this issue. When I asked Xbox support, they said this was NOT a known issue.
