External HDD Automatically Reformatted Itself!

WTF Microsoft!! I turned on my xbox 1 today, and after a couple minutes a notification popped up, "External HDD ready for use". I instantly knew what happened, so i plug it into my computer, and sure a hell ALL MY MOVIES, PICTURES, SAFETY TICKETS FOR MY
JOB, all deleted. %^%&^%^&%*^$$#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a hunk of junk, too bad I cant do anything about it. Installing malicous software on ur consoles now? What happened to my info? do u have it? All kinds of information on there, gone. THANKS SO MUCH.

360s red screen w/new HDD?

Official HDDs are factory pre-formatted to work with Xbox360, and will assign itself with console ID when installed, as they are not like External USB Drives needing to be reformatted before use.

External Hard Drive HELP?

I have heard that some xbox ones will not support more than 3tb external HDDs.

Mine formatted both of my 3Tb HDDs with no issues. But you dont need to do it on a computer. Your xbox one should handle it independently and that is the best way to avoid issues or having to reformat again.

It sounds like it could be a corrupted file on the External Drive, If your system is resetting when the drive is plugged in, you might need to wipe the HDD and let your xbox reformat it.

Thanks for replying.

I just plugged it into the 360 and used the format option on that and it had no problems formatting it to FAT32.

Turned out to be a very simple process. I thought I would have problems because windows will only format FAT32 partitions of up to 32GB. Thankfully you don't need to use a PC as the 360 can format the drive for you.

I did kill a USB flash drive once when formatting it to boot linux. After that my PC couldn't recognise it.

That's what i'm afraid of.

I think i'll chance it anyway. I'll plug it into the 360 and see if it will format it.
