    External HDD 4TB

    Hey guys,

So I just got a 4TB WD-Passport External HDD for my xbox. When I plugged it in and formatted it it told me I only have 3.6TB free. What is taking up that other 400GB? In perspective its not much but thats a good amount of games I can have on it!

    :)

transfer from 1 external hdd to another

I have a Xbox One S with an external Seagate 2tb External HDD used for storage. I recently picked up a 4tb seagate external HDD. I would like to transfer all the data and saved games to the 4tb HDD i just go and use that as storage instead. I am looking
for directions on how to do so.

Whenever you buy a hard drive, the actual amount of usable space is less than what is listed because of how it's calculated. They tend to round the numbers up for packaging instead of selling 3.6TB hard drives. So that's actually normal for a 4TB hard
    drive.

  5. For decades, Microsoft has measured the decimal "Kilobytes (KB)", as binary "Kibibytes (KiB)",

but always interpreted it as "kilobytes"
. Disk manufacturers compound the issue by stating the capacity of their products with the actual decimal metric. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) had to invent and standardize the binary prefix
of "kibi-, mebi-, gibi-, tebi-, ..." in 1998 to address the confusion, but Microsoft never bothered to interpret it correctly in their operating systems..

In your case, your hard drive is actually 4.0 terabytes in real capacity, but the Xbox OS detects it as 3.6
tebibytes, but calls it as terabytes. (conversion)

tl;dr - You aren't missing ~400GB of storage space, Microsoft adheres to a confusing tradition of not measuring storage correctly.
