    External HD Power in Standby


    I just bought a Seagate 3TB external drive (STBV3000100) for my One and even with the turn off storage box checked it stays on when in standby. The only way it will turn off is in power saving mode. Is this yet one more in a long line of bugs Microsoft
    doesn't care to fix or am I missing something?

    External drive keeps ticking on and off

    Does your external hard drive have a usb port as we as an external power supply or does the Usb power the hard drive itself? Secondly, is it set to instant on or power saving? There have been reports of problems with externally powered drives not getting
    or hearing the go to sleep signal or signal which puts it into standby when console shuts down and therefore stays on. Some will go into standby but not power on again after console is powered back on. What drive are you using?

    Problem with "Power Off Storage" / Latest System Update

    The "Power Off Storage' (while in standby) setting available in the latest update for the Xbox One is not working properly. When you turn off your console, the external device power cycles constantly, it does not stay off.

    if the xbox is in standby then it powers up every so often to check for updates which also fires up the external storage.

    External Hard Drive doesn't standby when XBOX does, waste of power, heat and life of drive, should have been enabled from day 1

    Hey, thanks for the reply. In my post I stated clearly that in order to use the instant on feature your external hard drive will have to remain on 24/7. What I want is to be able to use this feature and still have my external HD standby. It's not complicated,
    you can do it with power settings on a PC running windows 7. I think you didn't read my post and instead just instant replied and told me something I already knew.

    There is no limit, however, depending on the HD, it may be necessary to use an external power supply, as the USB input has a limit for powering the HD.
