External HD interferes with disc reads

If I have an ext HD plugged in, discs won't read. If I install a game with the ext HD disconnected, then plug it back in and move the game to it, system thinks I don't own the game when I try to run it. Anyone come close to these sorts of errors? Apps
(sling) installed to ext HD run just fine.

I deleted Black Ops 2 from my hard drive and I can't re-install it

Sounds like the disc is the issue, check the playable surface and make sure it is free of defects, smudges or anything else that might interfere with the disc being properly read.

Madden 12 freezing...

If you play your XBOX Console for more than 5 hours, you may have Disc Drive issue(s) regarding the heat of the Console and the motherboard. Check if your Disc Drive and your Madden 12 Disc are both: Clean of any dust/irritants which may interfere with the
lazer when it reads the disc memory.

Disk copies of games are recommended on internal so the console can access it faster and easier as for digital copies they are usually meant for external HDD to save up space.

You trouble may be that the disk copies refuse to work when saved to external. So what i want you to do is go to My games & apps - What ever disk copies you own - Manage game - Installed - hover over the main game - press select - Move

Once done sign out and re-sign in.

Hi. I have the same problem on my one s. I put the disc in and it never pops up on my dashboard. The disc is brand new and never been dirty or scratched. other discs work just fine. I can only get it to read rarely after a full xbox restart, but even that is a hit or miss. Somtimes the disc icon is on the dashboard but it will tell me to put the disc in to read license, even though the disc is in the system. It is a cross gen disc. I've also tried reinstalling it back on my external hd with no luck. I'm trying to install the game on my internal hd to see if that will change anything. But i doubt it

Thanks for the reply for the usb ports. I am however still having problems with the external HDs. I have one external 8TB for games and have an external 4TB(powered) for movies that the XBOX won't read. However if I use a 2TB(non-powered) HD it reads
it fine.???? any thoughts\suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks
