    External Harddrive issue after October update


    I don't know if any one else is having the same issue but I've gone to play Xbox today and the majority of my games are installed on an external harddrive.

    Overnight the Xbox updated and now it won't recognise my External Harddrive at all.

    I have tried literally everything. Different USB ports, full shutdown, even resetting the OS and nothing has worked.

    I went to bed circa 01.30 last night and was playing Xbox until then with absolutly no issues so the only thing that has changed is the new update which has rendered me unable to play Xbox at all.

    Anyone know of anything I can do or what the problem is?

    If you have an external harddrive try unplugging it and doing a hard reboot. I had this issue in the past and come to find out it was due to a faulty external harddrive.

    Have you tried scan and repair on windows 10 see if that can fix the issue and then replug it back to the xbox I have issues with PS4 external HDD sometimes not showing up when i scan and repair it fixes the issue, I remember it should also work for xbox
    as well as windows 10 and xbox os is basically now the same.

    Agreed with the others. Try another HDD / USB with your Xbox, see if that is recognised. Try your HDD with another Xbox / PC, see if it is recognised.

    Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
    Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
    Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.
