    Xbox One external harddrive problem

I wish to buy an external harddrive for the xbox, and I always wonder this question.......

I am to buy an extremely large external drive, like 8TB, then i am going to store all my games on xbox one on it of course, those I have now and I will have in future.

Then, can I plug out that drive and save media files from PC on it? I have an media library that I would like to back up in external (primary objective) and then I can also watch it on xbox one (secondary objective).

The thing is, if I finished transfering media to the drive and put it back in xbox one, will xbox alter those file without cosent? like, will xbox one delete those file if my future game installment is larger than available space without telling me before it do so? Or will it just outright overwrite the file even if the storage is not full?

I am sick of getting two external harddrive, buying 2x4TB for PC and Xbox is more expensive and in my region, 8TB of internal harddrive for PC is at exact same price as 8TB of USB 3.0 external harddrive.....

I am in such a worry because I have always assume xbox one as an evil, arrogant machine and the media library I wish to back up is very important.....

Sorry for my bad English, Please Help.

External harddrive for media not recognised by Xbox one

Same here i had a PNY 128 GB Flashdrive connected during the November update and now nothing it wont recognize it at all. It was working fine before the update never had a problem until the update. The flashdrive works on my PC, Xbox 360 fine without a problem
just not on the Xbox one for some reason. Something happened during the update that "altered or changed something on my flashdrive because all my other flash drives work on the xbox one except my PNY 128 GB flashdrive. I have contacted tech support twice on
this matter and nothing helped to solve the problem. So if anybody has any ideas then chime in please.

Also i have tried all the tricks and then some.

Hardboot the machine with drive attached. X

    Reformat to NTFS. X

    Reformat to FAT32. X

Reformat on the Xbox 360. X

    Clear Blu-ray "constant Information". XX

    reset network setting.XX

Tech support tried everything and nothing worked so i dont know either.

My PNY 128gb usb flash drive that was connected to my XBOX One when updated is no longer recognized by my TV's USB Media port either. It is still recognized by all my computers. This is saddening, luckily I have a 16gb Media drive that is still recognized
    by both.

I've tried all types of formatting of the 128gb drive and nothing is working, kinda frustrating really!

I have a 2TB toshiba external that worked before the NXOE update. Now it's hit or miss, mostly when I try to download games. I'll get a "external Hard drive ready" msg when the system starts, immediately followed by a "installation stopped" msg.

no one seems to know how to fix this and I can't get much help from MS. Please help! This is so frustrating!

External drives and what the system only sees as media devices can be pretty hit or miss, and that goes back to before the update to NXOE. My suggestion would be if you have a computer on the same network that still sees it fine, then just stream it through
the network to the media player via DLNA. Just download one of dozens of third party programs for your computer to load it into. I use Vuze on mine. And in all honesty, if your not using a Western Digital external HDD, then you're going to have a bad time.
The Xbone has a sad storied history with most HDD's, WD just seems to be the only one without issues.

  10. I've never had an issue with this particular (or any other) external drive, and it worked 100% of the time before the update. I'm not saying some drives may not have issues, but I don't believe it to be the issue in this case.

Could be an issue of compatibility, have you checked for driver updates for the HDD?

External harddrive for media not recognised by Xbox one

Same here. I have WD 3tb external. No problems pre update, now, it wont recognize the drive or my games. First it would pop up saying HD ready after the update, now it wont even do that. It doesn't recognize it at all to even reformat on the console either.

Ok, so I just talked with support and was able to get it recognized again. After the update the Xbox turned on the feature where it turns off the External Drive when the system powers down. I don't know if the issue is that maybe the Xbox was not turning
it back on, but I turned OFF that feature so that the Xbox One would not turn off external drive. I then disconnected and powered down the external drive, then plugged it back in and it is now being recognized. Maybe some of you should try this and let me
    know what you get.

My external hard drive has been having issues since the new dashboard update. Now I have to turn on the Xbox two to three times to get it to recognize it. Also, yesterday, it wouldn't let me download a game to the external hard drive. I was able to download
it to the internal hard drive but only when the external wasn't recognized. For some strange reason, now when the external hard drive is working, I can't reset the console, I have to turn it completely off. Pressing the reboot option causes the Xbox to sit
with a black screen and never reboots.
