Seagate Hard drives are dodgy. All the ones I have bought over the years have had bad sectors or just stopped working for no reason at all. Western digital FTW.

I have a 2TB and a 1TB western dig...but they are on my network holding my ill-gotten movie collection.

No problems ever with either one.

When the time arises, I will probably get another 1TB western dig for the xb1

Dangers for HDDs are moving them when they're spinning and startup/shutdown. As long as you're not bumping or moving your My Book it is fine to leave it on all the time.

P.S. I have killed a Seagate 3.5" external 3TB drive by dropping it while it was still powered on (fell off a shelf). That WILL kill the drive. Make sure your drive is somewhere where the power cable and the USB cable can't pull it off a shelf. Back when
I was using an external drive for my TiVo (My Book DVR), I tucked it behind my sound projector safely nestled between power strips and the sound projector. It wasn't going to be accidentally dropped or pulled off its perch.

Can Microsoft please answer the question re what we consumers can use for game storage other than the 500gb on xbox one?

I will not be purchasing any games until I have a storage unit to play off.

I hope that is clear Microsoft.

I use a 2TB Western Digital My Passbook Ultra. It isn't 7200rpm, but the speed cap of USB 3.0 means it isn't an issue. You don't see speed benefits using a 7200rpm plate over a 5400rpm because of the use of USB 3.0. With the WD drive I have, there's no additional
power source required, it's small and lightweight so I can take it with me places, and there are no length cables to get tangled up. It was cheap on Amazon and hasn't let me down. Win all round!

  10. i purchased a Touro 4TB USB3.0 7200RPM external hard drive. but im noticing INSANELY slow install speeds to it. my internet connection is more than fast enough, i have 50mbps download. its literally been downloading for a full 24 hours and its at 84%, ive
never had any download/installs take this long on my internal drive. any ideas as to why it would be going so slow?

I got a Seagate Backup Plus SLIM 1TB HDD from JB Hi Fi who were have a sale on Tuesday. The HDD is one of the slim-ist 1TB HDD's you can find, so it isn't a behemoth. I got it because my HP Pavilion dv6 has only a 320GB HDD and only 50GB of that is free,
since I'm a Youtuber. I need to get one for my Xbox 1 console since it's HDD is 90% used.

This year I'm planning on getting Life is Weird (Square Enix game due this month), Screamride, Final Fantasy Type O, Phantom Pain, Halo 5, and Final Fantasy XV if it comes out. I know you get the XV Demo if you preorder the Type 0 from EB Games. I also have
15 X1 games Skype Youtube and IE on my console. That's why I only have 9% free.

I also like how the Xbox 1 console supports different video file formats as well. I have a Sony CX190 and it records 1080p to AVCHD format. Since I got my Seagate HDD, my Xbox 1 console can play it without me having to convert my videos to MP4. Sure the
Seagate BackUp Plus Slim 1TB may only be 5400rpm but when I plugged it in my PC, you get 930GB free. With Xbox 1's internal 500GB, you only get about 360 or 380GB free. If I wanted to play AVCHD files on my Xbox 360 slim, it probably won't be able to play
it. I'm not sure if my Samsung S5 can play AVCHD without having to convert it to MP4 or this other format. And, the Seagate HDD loads files acceptable fast. I checked out the manufacturers site and under Australia/NZ locale on the site, it comes with a whopping
3 year warranty, not just a 12 month warranty.

I spent 107 bucks today on one. I purchased a 3tb seagate SSHD. Then purchased an enclosure for it.

This does 2 things if you are savvy enough to install the disk in your enclosure.

    1. An enclosure that will be less prone to overheating than the prebuilts.

    2. I get a hard drive I know is 7200 rpm and the bonus of it having a small SSD on board to boost loading times of my favorite games.

The results are pretty good. The first time I run a game I see maybe 5-7 seconds (in most cases) increase in load speed, but after the first the load times massively drop 20+ seconds.

So while you will notice a slight increase in load speeds on a prebuilt HD , you are normally just getting another 5400rpm drive in a cheap prebuilt enclosure. I prefer the 15-20 buck increase for a better setup personally

  15. I have a quick question for anyone who might know.

I decided to get the digital version of DAI, since it was on special. Have my external HDD as the default install drive.

I decided to do it during the day, so it would be ready for later. So I turned on the console, set it to 'instant on' (it's usually in energy saver) so that I could just start the download and then turn off the console and let it download in the background.
Problem was, when I turned off the console, the download stopped, even though it was set to instant on.

I have the console set to 'turn off external storage when the console is off'. So the question is; Did I need to change that setting so that it leaves the HDD on as well, or is it just that you can't download and install a game to an external HDD with the
console off? Thanks for any help... will be nice to know for the next time I need to do a background DL.

BTW, I got a WD My Passport Ultra: Metal Edition 1tb drive. Pretty nice for the price and seems to work well.
