External Hard Drives for Xbox one

I heard that the Xbox One does or is going to support external USB 3.0 Hard Drives. Is that true? What hard drives are supported? Are there certain recommended brands/models? I am an avid gamer that needs more space!

if adverts for "compatible" external hard drives are any indication it would seem the external storage patch should be coming some time soon although I note it wont be in the first patch released.

Here's the official word from Xbox:

From my undrestanding, size isn't really an issue, but the drive is formatted by the console to accept data. Any data on the drive would be lost, and I don't think it would be readable by another device (PC, Mac etc), though am willing to be corrected by
someone who knows more that me.

There is a minimum size of 250gb it as to be USB 3.0, Shuboxx is correct if you have data from PC it will be lost when formatted by your console only games and apps can be stored on the HDD, however you can now use another HDD or thumb stick which can be
USB 1.0/2.0/3.0 for playing your music/video, to use the 3.0 for music /video don't format with the console.

^^^^ I use a 2TB Seagate which is mains powered but you can use USB powered.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

As an idea for xbox one hard drives because they are internal and not external try plugging in an external drive to save or transfer all important games to external hard drive and leave not so important games onto internal drive
that way you can take them anywhere and not have hard drive failures with xbox one.

Are you running it off of the hard drive on the Xbox One or an external one? If you are playing off of the internal drive on the Xbox One then you may want to get an external for it because that is a known issue as far as the Xbox One hard drive and this
game.
