    External Hard Drive


    Yesterday, while updating the new Call of Duty update on my original Xbox One, the external drive disconnected and reconnected by itself. It did this a couple times during the update and also had done it in the past when I wasn't updating anything. After
    it finished the update I turned the xbox off and went to bed. This afternoon when I went to play, the game would give me the "took too long to start" error. I tried the other games on the external drive and all gave me the same error. I figured the drive must
    have corrupted when it was disconnecting and reconnecting by itself. I tried to format the drive but I kept getting the "StorageManagement took too long to start" error. I performed a hard reset and was still getting the error.

    Frustrated, I factory rest my Xbox. I tried the external drive again and kept getting the same error codes, confirming the drive may have gotten corrupt. I am now just re-installing my games on the internal drive.

    My question now is how can I format my external drive without having to plug it in my Xbox, since it keeps giving me the "StorageManagement took too long" error? It is an older drive that I've had for about 4 years. It is a Seagate 1TB Backup Plus Model:
    SRD00F1. I tried plugging it into my computer but it doesn't even show up on the my devices/drives screen.

    Is this game stored on your Internal Storage or External hard drive? If it's on your External Hard drive kindly move it to your Internal Storage then remove the hard drive. This is to check if it's due to the external hard drive.

    No, the 500gb is a joke. you will 100% need either an external hard drive or to buy the larger 1tb hard drive. External hard drives are just the cheaper option.

    May I know if an external hard drive is plugged into your console? If yes, have you kept the external hard drive unplugged when performing troubleshooting steps and check if the issue persists without external hard drive?

    Requires a hard drive.

    You have to have an external hard drive plug in. It does not have to be 360 just reformat it. External hard drives that plug in the USB are not recognized as a hard drive for the 360.
