    External Hard drive won't work

I'm using a 3tb Seagate Backup plus external hard drive. It is formatted. When I plug it in I get the message, try another device. The hard drive is 3.0 usb and 3tb so it should work. Not sure what to do. Please help.

    :)

    External Hard drive won't work

You are right, this should be working. Go into your Xbox One's power mode and make sure it is set to “Instant-On,” try adjusting the power management for storage:

First you will want to go into System Settings, and select Power and Set up.

Unselect the checkbox next to “When Xbox is off, turn off storage.”

Remove and then reconnect the drive, then reconnect the drive (securely) to a different USB port on the console. Then you will need to perform a Power Cycle of the console by holding the power
button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds ( the Xbox will shut off after about 5 seconds, be sure to hold it for the remaining 5).

    Wait 1 minute (no less)

Turn the console on again, and then try the external drive again.

Hopefully this works for you. Best of luck.

Does the hard drive work with a PC? It could be a fault with the device itself.

You may need to format it again for use on a PC to test this.

It could be that your external hard drive may be faulty. I recommend plugging it into your PC to see if it recognized on there. If it is try it again with your Xbox One. If it is not try returning it for a replacement.

    External Hard drive won't work

It works fine on the pc. I tried another external hard drive I have. A WD 1tb and I don't get any message at all. Nothing. At least with the Seagate it says Try a Different Device. With the Western Digital I get nothing.

Is there a way to force the xbox one to detect devices?

Not that I am aware of. If it is not detecting the External HDD's (with the spec's met, which you are aware of in your OP) then your Xbox One may have an issue.

  10. I had a HGST Touro S 1 tb drive that wasn't detected by my Xbox One. I tried everything that you did. I was able to resolve the issue by replacing the USB 3.0 cable. For some reason the Usb 3.0 cable that came included with the drive does not work with Xbox
One. It worked fine with my PC and everything else, just not with my Xbox One.

I was also able to resolve the issue be changing the cable. For some reason the cable that comes with the Seagate Backup Plus is not 100% compatible with the xBox One. In this case i have a 4TB Seagate Backup Plus

Is the external hard drive 3.0 usb or higher? If not, it won't work with the Xbox One.

Could be the external hard drive causing the issue then it won't be the first time I seen errors appearing after updates on external hard drives. Try installing it on internal drive instead if you can?.

    Xbox issue

I moved my games from the internal hard drive to the external hard drive to see if my games won't kick me to the dashboard I tried it yesterday with a external hard drive I had never used for my Xbox. My games were never on the external hard drive they
were in the internal hard drive. Also I downloaded trove and it kicks me to the dashboard as well.

    Storage question

The transfer cable won't work that way. The system is set up to only see that to transfer data between Xbox hard drives. You would need a 360 hard drive attached (if games require them) or you can use and external USB hard drive or flash drive and redownload
    the games to that.
