  1. External hard drive won't install games

I have a seagate hard drive that I have been trying to get to work with my xbox one. The xbox will pick up the hard drive and when I try to install a game on it, it will only make it a few percent and it will say installation stopped. I know the hard drive
works because I have tested it on my laptop. I saw on youtube that it is probably a problem with the cord not being compatible with the xbox, so I replaced the cord with three others but it does the same thing with each cord. Does anybody know how to solve
    this problem?

    :)

    Noob question ^_^

I was wondering, would I be able to install my physical games on an external hard drive? My external is almost full, and I just want to make sure that external hard drives isn't only for digital installing, but for physical installing too.

    Hard Drive Help!

So I just got Dragon Age Inquisition. I have a 2Tb external drive, as well as the built-in 3gb on my 360. I go to install the game, and it says it can only install on the hard drive. It needs 7gb to install. It won't accept my external drive as an install
point. Is there a way I can replace my built in hard drive with one that's bigger? Or is there another way to go about this that I'm not seeing? Any help would be wonderful, because I'm really anxious to play this game!

External hard drive won't install games

    Hi Capt!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I would like to clarify one thing, after it says installation stopped does it give you any error codes? Also, have you by any chance tried the Hard drive on any other console before?

If wanting to use external storage with Xbox One games and apps, your hard drive must:

    • Hold 256 GB or more
    • Connect via USB 3.0
When you first connect, Xbox will prompt you to format your device. You can use it for Xbox games and apps, or for personal media such as pictures, music, and video.
(Xbox will treat devices that don’t meet the above requirements as media storage.)

Note Xbox will recognize only two external drives at one time.

    Hope to hear back soon.

  5. There are no error codes when it says installation stopped. The hard drive meets the criteria to be used as an external hard drice. I have not usd the hard drive on any other consoles as I only have 1 xbox one.

  6. Hi,

Please help us by answering the following questions:

Is it just one game, or all games?

Are these games on disc or digital download?

Do demo's from the Xbox Store install?

Okay. Do games or demos install okay to the internal hard drive?

Does a hard reset help? - Accomplished by holding the power button down while the console is on until it goes off, waiting 10 seconds and trying again.

  9. Games and demos install fine on the internal drive. I have tried hard resetting several times and it doesn't help.

  10. When you said you'd tested it on the PC, what did you do to test it? Did you to copy large amounts of data?

Have you tried to reformat the drive on your laptop, then connect to your Xbox?

  11. Yes, I did a reformat. I didn't change the partition settings. I didn't know if that would help.

    Hi,

I agree with Njal. Go to the manufacturers website and use any tools there to reformat the drive and check for errors.

You can't pre- set partitions for drives you're going to use for Xbox One. The whole will be used.

Another way to check the health of a drive is to check the S.M.A.R.T status. Many applications are available for the same. I used Hard disk sentinel for the same. You can install the free version on the laptop and check the status. If over time you see the
overall health shown in percentage to continuously fail, that indicates a problem with the drive. Also, as suggested, you may want to do a low-level format using the tools from the manufacturer's website. This will mark the bad sectors in the drive and those
sectors will no longer be used in the future.

My assumption here is that the installation is getting stopped in the middle as the console maybe encountering errors on the drive. S.M.A.R.T also shows lots of parameters like error rate that would give you an idea about the health of the drive. I am not
sure if you mentioned the Hard drive model in here.

Hi, The External itself could be corrupted too, You may have to exchange it for one that works
