External hard drive won't format - please help

I the two tests come clean I would take the console to a repair shot so the guys there can do some more extensive testing. Still, testing the console with another storage drive could point you in the right direction.

You might not want to take the console to any repair shop. If you determine the console is the problem you would want Microsoft to do any repairs that are required. Xbox One Support | Xbox 360 Support | Xbox Live and Billing Support Having
anyone else other than MS work on the console would void any warranty remaining. Also, if you should ever need to actually send it to MS after someone else has worked on it they probably would return it without service when the determine it has been tampered
with.

If all else fails you might consider doing a factory reset on the console. support.xbox.com/.../reset-console-to-factory-defaults

So I ran the diagnostic tool and the tests did come back clean. I'm sure the issue lies somewhere within the console itself. I'm nit going to take it in to be serviced because I don't want to void the warranty. I'm going to try and take it back to the store
and see if I can exchange it (a long shot). I just don't know what else I can do at this point...

Exchanging it may be the best thing possible. I would consult with MS's support before that if there's any point in sending it for repairs. Otherwise exchanging it seems the best option.

Since the new Dashboard update many Hard drive and external devices will not update.. Sadly i lost out 400$ on a 8TB Harddrive cause of it

Thanks for the replies. We recommend trying to format the external hard drive on a PC. Make sure to format to NTFS. Also here is a guide for issues

detecting external hard drive. If the hard drive is not compatible with the console it will read it as a media device no matter the format.

Thanks for your post. I understand you are experiencing an issue with uninstalling a game on your external hard drive. Have you attempted to re-format your hard drive? You may want to check your hard drive's manual on the proper steps to format it.

Formatting will completely wipe your hard drive's data, this should correct any issues with installation and uninstallation on your external hard drive.

If you have a Windows PC, connect the external hard drive to it and give it a reformat. Sometimes, people need to give a hard drive an extra reformat on the computer because it's currently in a format that the Xbox cannot change (for some reason).

- Connect the external HDD to the PC.

- Go to "My Computer" (Win+E)

- Right click the external hard drive, and select "Format..."

- Ensure it formats to "NTFS", leave all other settings the way they are.

- After it finishes, attempt to format the drive on the Xbox again.

NOTE: If your external hard drive came pre-formatted with more than one partition, you will need to reformat the entire drive so it has one and only one NTFS partition. You can manage disk partitions via "Disk Management" in Windows.

as per the other comments about the use of the external hard drive for the 360 I am in the update preview program which allows additional External hard drives to be used.I purchased the same Seagate 2tb external hard drive as per my xboxone but when I apply
the format on the xbox360 as per the instructions it replies with unable to format. Would like to know what external hard drives are compatible? I no the hard drive works as tried it on the xboxone after it would not format for the 360
