can it be used because I bought a 3 tb hard drive and wanted to use 2tb for game and 1tb for personal but when I hooked it up to the one it formatted it to 2.7 tb also what file system does the ONE use fat 32 NTFS or something eles?

How do I get more storage on my xbox one?

Buy an external hard drive with the following:

It uses a USB 3.0 connection. If you’re using a USB hub, the hub must also be USB 3.0 or later.

It has 256 GB or larger storage capacity.

It has a partition. Typically, drives come with a preformatted partition. For more information about partitioning an external hard drive, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.

use a partition external hard drive with xbox one.

I have an external hard drive that has a partition. both are nfts. when I try to use it with my xbox one it wants me to format the whole hard drive. I only want to use one partition. how do I only use one partition with the xbox one and the other with my
pc.

Hi there.

You cannot partition a hard drive and use it for additional storage on the Xbox One. The whole drive needs to be formatted for the Xbox One. I believe it uses it's own proprietary format, which is why it has to use the whole drive.

so why cant the file type be changed when formatted on the computer?

It can be changed when you format it on the computer but when you put in on the xbox to use it it will reformat and use the entire drive for the purpose you decide. If you want to use it for games then it will format the entire drive to use for games. As
SN1P3R SK33T says you can not use an external drive on the xbox for two separate purposes it will either be used entirely for games/apps or entirely for media.

Frathos

The Format Hard Drive function is also there so that you can format external USB 3.0 HDD's with the appropriate Xbox partition for saving games etc. By default, a new external HDD would come with a FAT or NTFS partition which cannot be used for installing
Xbox games. A NTFS partitioned external hard drive can be used however for extended Game DVR clips.
