External hard drive will not shut off since the May 2017 update.

I have an 8TB Western Digital My Book external drive connected to my Xbox One. Prior to the update, it would shut off fine when the Xbox was powered down. I have always had the Xbox configured for low power mode so that the drive would turn off. Now the
drive will not power off and the setting has not changed. What has changed in this update that might have caused this problem? Is there a way to fix it?

    :)

  3. Xbox one external storage issue

Hi, I have an issue with external hard drive on Xbox one since the last update (spring update 2017). When I connect the external drive it shows my games and plays it as well as before, but I can't move them to internal HDD, in the game management area there
are no option such as MOVE TO or COPY TO. also I can't move my games from internal HDD to external HDD. What should I do?

    Hey there, Grim!

I'm sorry to see any issues with your external hard drive! While the setting for Energy-saving mode may not have changed, there is specifically a setting for external hard drives that may have been reset during the latest update. If your "When Xbox is off,
turn off storage" option is checked when you go into your power options, toggle it off then back on to see if that helps.

    If not, I suggest a
    factory reset
of the console, but keeping your games and apps. This will do a refresh of the operating system, and should fix this.

Let me know how it goes! We can look at other troubleshooting steps if those don't help you out. External hard drive will not shut off since the May 2017 update. :)

    Misses Quinzel,

Thanks for the reply. I found the setting that you had mentioned. It is in a sub menu under Power Mode: Instant-on. I never found it because I had selected Power Mode: Energy-saving. There are no sub menus available for Energy-saving, which I find odd.
You would think that Energy-saving would shut it off by default.

I try this setting and let you know how it went.

This KB article may help as well:

    support.microsoft.com/.../971875

If you are using an older Xbox 360 with the external harddrive attachment you may want to try shutting off the console, removing the hard drive and re-seating it (possibly blowing off the connectors as well). If it's the newer S model and you have the internal
drive you can try the same steps; shut off the console and remove/re-seat the hard drive.

Steps on how to do that can be found here:
