External Hard Drive Wants to Reformat

Hello,

A while ago I installed an external HDD on my Xbox One for use with games and data. It formatted the device and everything was fine. Recently I unplugged my device and moved the HDD to my Windows 10 PC to check and see if it was only partitioned or if the
whole thing was formatted as I had forgotten. I did not format back for use with my PC at all, it was still unusable on my PC and wouldn't show up in my installed drives. After seeing this, I moved it back to my Xbox One only to discover my Xbox One now wanted
to format the drive, even though it was already formatted and had games installed. It said it was unformatted and the entire thing was free space, however it was unusable on my PC still, and was not formatted for PC.

Is there any way I can connect my HDD again without reformatting the entire drive and losing all my games and having to redownload and install them all? I have limited internet connection where I live so this will take a very long time to redownload and
install everything...

I just purchased a new Xbox one S and in doing so put all the data from my old Xbox one onto an external hard drive that has been working fine for years with my old Xbox. I have moved house so have no internet connection. My new Xbox one S wouldn't recognise
the things on my external hard drive. But did recognise that it was plugged in. On messing with the settings I accidentally formatted the HDD and now everything appears to be lost. Every save I ever made since getting the Xbox one on release all those years
ago. Is there a way of recovering my info? If not, will my saves be stored in the cloud? I'm gutted. I double checked again with my old Xbox and hard drive if the data was there and it wasn't.

Your saves should be available in the cloud so long as you were connected to Xbox Live prior to moving to your new Xbox One. Unfortunately if you reformed your HDD, there isn't a way to recover what was deleted.

 

For the record, the entire drive is formatted and partitioned for use on the Xbox One.

You can try giving your console a
power cycle, as well as restarting the external drive.

If it still tells you to reformat it, then unfortunately that is the only option. Connecting it to the PC may have corrupted something, especially if the drive was not safely disconnected.
