    so I bought an external hard drive for my Xbox over a year ago and it worked fine for a while till one day it didn't recognize it I unplugged it multiple times and after a while it would read again but after a while it would stop , putting a USB extender
    on seemed to fix the issue but recently it seems that all my games install to the internal hard drive and it seems to have unformatted my external hard drive for Xbox use I have 88 games on there and would really like to not have to erase my data for at the
    games I spent hours playing any suggestions how to fix my issue?

    if the hard drive of my xbox says unformatted what do i do?

    I did it on an external hard drive but yes it was formatted.

    Which external hard drive to use with Xbox 360 ?

    as per the other comments about the use of the external hard drive for the 360 I am in the update preview program which allows additional External hard drives to be used.I purchased the same Seagate 2tb external hard drive as per my xboxone but when I apply
    the format on the xbox360 as per the instructions it replies with unable to format. Would like to know what external hard drives are compatible? I no the hard drive works as tried it on the xboxone after it would not format for the 360

    Hello Edward,

    Thanks for the replies. We recommend trying to format the external hard drive on a PC. Make sure to format to NTFS. Also here is a guide for issues

    detecting external hard drive    . If the hard drive is not compatible with the console it will read it as a media device no matter the format.

    Hi,

    Not sure what you wanted to do here, could you elaborate?

    As for external hard drives, you can't partition them for use as both external storage for games and for use with your Mac or PC. You can use an external hard drive on the Xbox One as a media drive, though.

    If you format an external hard drive for Xbox One games storage, the whole drive is formatted and the file system is changed.
