    External Hard Drive Turns Itself Off But Doesnt Turn Back On with the System


    Hi,

    I have a 2 TB Buffalo external hard drive. I have noticed the drive is turning itself off but when this happens it does not turn back on when the system is restarted. I have to manually unplug and replug the drives power source to start it back up. Does
    anyone have a fix for this?

    Need help! External Hard Drive Purchase

    The hard drive I bought works great, easy to set up. Also noticiable faster loading times for game installed on the external.

    Unfortunately when my Xbox is turned off it doesnt put the external in sleep mode so have to turn on and off the external manually.

    Similar thing here. Although I have 2 external drives both of which are plugged into a powered USB 3.0 Hub. My 1st HDD is a 5400rpm 2TB Western Digital and my 2nd HDD is a 7200rpm 4TB Seagate Barracuda. Now HDD No.1 is connected directly to the Xbox, with
    one cable, as it uses a 2.5" hdd. This drive isn't affected by the issue and the console sees the drive every time. But HDD No.2 has a 3.5" hdd inside and as such has 2 USB plugs. The larger/fatter cable I have connected directly to the Xbox and the smaller/thinner
    cable connected to a GPO(240v) powered USB hub and it's this HDD that suffers from the non connectivity issue. And just as gdawgbball23 I have to unplug then plug it back in for the Xbox to recognise it.

    Xbox froze during download..

    What are you downloading it to? If you're downloading to an external hard drive, remove and then insert it again. If you're downloading to the System Unit, try turning off you console and turning it back on.

    Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

    Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

    and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

    Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.

    I unplugged my external hard drive when my Xbox was turned off and when I turned it back on and plugged it back in, there were no problems. It could depend on what external hard drive you are using but mine was fine, for now at least, I hope there are no

    Do you have an external hard drive plugged into your console? If yes, kindly unplug the external hard drive then perform a powercycle then try to reinstall your games, or check if they will be visible. Keep the external hard drive unplugged.
