External hard drive suddenly undetected overnight

downloaded and installed borderlands handsome collection last night on my external hd. Checked it this am, shows the notification of install complete but now my external hard drive isnt detected.

Tried full reboot, unplugging replugging. The HD seems to be functioning properly, light is on, and I can hear it fire up.

No error codes, just all of my games and saves are simply absent, and the HD doesbt show up under my storage options

I noticed there was an update yesterday as well could this have something to do with it??

Thanks for your reply! I did try that out, it does recognize other usb/external hard drives, so I'm thinking the problem is more with this particular hard drive that suddenly isn't being recognized anymore.

Have you tried the reboot with the hdd unplugged from console.

 

I restarted it a couple different ways, but it was 230am here had to be at work at 3 so I can't quite remember which ways. Will try again and be sure when I get home.

 

the same thing has happened to me sunday dec 6th. i followed all the general trouble shooting suggestions. like unplugging the console wait 5-10min plug back in and turn it on, check system settings under power and make sure turn hard drive power off if
console is off is unchecked, tried all 3 usb 3.0 ports. the only way i got it to work for the last two days was to reformat it lose 2tb of games and start redownloading. only today it happened again so i'm at a loss. this probably doesn't mean much but my
hard drive model number is stbv4000100. i really hope this can be pinpointed and fixed.

 

I have seen a lot of people in the preview program with this issue and there isn't a fix in sight, Also it doesn't matter if you use a usb 2.0 hd for data or a usb 3.0 for games they need to fix this fast.

 

Gonna go buy another ext hdd now... Hopefully I can get it to work and hurry up and transfer stuff.... Or I guess stick it in the computer and rip the files out... Last ditch effort

 

Are you using the HDD for gaming or is it a data drive for movies? If it is used for gaming you won't be able to use a computer to get the files off.

 

Which hopefully it won't matter since save games are theoretically saved in the cloud. May just have to reinstall everything.... Gonna be super grumps if it took all my saves....had a lot on there
