    External hard drive stopped working

My Xbox one wouldn't seem to turn on properly today. Every time I tried to turn it on my tv just kept saying "unsupported format" At the top of my blank screen. My wireless controller would turn the console on but then not properly sync with the console
suggesting that the console wasn't booting properly. After a long session of trying different cables, TV's and various rebooting techniques I managed to establish that my external hard drive (an 18 month old 4TB WD Element) was causing the issue. Without the
hard drive plugged in my Xbox boots up fine. If I plug in the hard drive the screen goes blank until I unplug it again and the Xbox goes through a green screen reboot sequnce. The hard drive itself hasn't been moved or knocked about in any way and all the
cables seem fine. Is this a problem anyone had encountered and managed to remedy before? It certainly seems like it's most likely a faulty hard drive that just needs replacing but was wondering if anyone has had and fixed this problem previously before I discard
it as an expensive plastic brick and look at buying a new one.

    :)

  3. Xbox One will not recognize second external hard drive

    Hello All:

I have an xbox one. I have been using two external hard drives with it. Recently the xbox stopped recognizing that the second hard drive was connected. I figured the hard drive quit working, so I purchase a new 4tb Seagate Xbox External Hard Drive to
use. I plugged it in and the xbox did not recognize it either. I have done hard reboots, switch usb ports, switch cables, etc... and nothing that I do gets the xbox to recognize either the original second external hard drive that was working perfectly or
the new second external hard drive. Even when I remove the first external hard drive, and hard reboot, the xbox will still not recognize the either the new external hard drive or the drive that had worked well in the past as a second external hard drive.
I figure something is wrong with my xbox one. Please advise what I should do.

    Thank you!

    External hard drive stopped working

Try to save somewhere the info you have in the external drive and format the external drive to see if there is any corrupt file that is causing this issue.

    Hey there McJacko,

I would second M3tal's suggestion. The problem may be coming from the drive's file system or it may be a hardware issue inside the drive itself. I would recommend connecting the drive to a working PC and run
WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests.

Formatting it would erase all corrupted data but it would wipe the drive and you would have to redownload all your games and you would lose your safe files from the drive.

I would also try the drive on other ports with another cable.

Why did my Xbox uninstall and delete my profile?

I noticed that my external hard drive stopped working. Which had everything on it.

    I LOST MY GAMES

Yes, but did you install them on the internal drive or an external drive? Because if its the latter then maybe the hard drive stopped working and that would result in your games not being displayed.

Xbox One Installation Stopped External Hard Drive

I know there are a lot of posts but let me re-summarize.

Hard drive was working with everything.

    Xbox updated.

External Hard Drive allows Apps to install no issue, but games will not install or be moved to the External Hard Drive.

Games that were on the external drive still work but are no longer able to update and as such error out when attempting to play.

Given hardware did not change and is still in working order as evidenced by being read and installing Apps (small sized files compared to games), the only thing that changed was software (the update).

Some users report certain external hard drive enclosures work still ($7.99 on Amazon) but previous ones stopped. This tells me there is a driver incompatibility or a soft block on certain external device enclosures.
