External hard drive recognized but unmanageable

I am having trouble with my external hard drive. I have a 4tb wd mybook. I just moved and left my ss usb cord accidentally that goes to the xbox. I just went to kmart and bought a usb 3.0 cord that goes to regular usb on the xbox. I plugged it in and
my xbox recognizes and shows my external hard drive, but would not launch games. It would just kick me to the store, and in the store the play option would come up, I'd click play and it would just reboot me to the store. Well when I clicked manage game on
any game in my hard drive, no uninstall option was possible because it was showing nothing under manage game. I then formatted the hard drive, from the xbox settings thinking that may be my issue. It cleared my hard drive space, but I still can't download
the games back to it, also the option to move internal hard drive games over to the external is gone. Is this because off this new cord I bought? It just doesn't make sense to me. Thanks for suggestions

If anyone else is have the same problem here is a link to reformatting external hard drives. Likely your hard drive will show as unrecognized so just follow that section. Pretty simple in the end.

Sorry I should have found this earlier. Some people have found a workaround to get the drive to be recognized on your pc prior to formatting it. Just follow the steps at this link.

Hey there

I'm sorry to hear about the troubles. why don't we start with the drive itself and try to exclude it as the possible cause of the situation.

I'd connect the My Book to a working PC with that cable and see if the drive is properly recognized in BIOS,
Device Manager and
Disk Management.

I'd then download and run
WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if it recognizes the drive. If it does - run both the quick and the extended tests and see if the drive passes both of them. Have in mind that the extended test will normally last quite a while.

How does the new cable look like? Does the drive work fine with it on a PC?

Is there another external drive which you can try on the console and see if it works? Do you have all the latest updates on the console itself?

Post back with some test results or if you have any questions
