External Hard Drive Recognized As Media Only Will Not Reformat

Purchased a Seagate Xbox One External HD, 2TB. Plugged it in and Xbox One will only recognize it as media player. How can I reformat it for games and apps? I have searched and it looks like a menu should appear at this stage:

    1. Scroll left from Home to open the guide.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Allsettings.
    4. Select System.
    5. Select Storage.
    6. Select External Drive.
No menu appears to reformat. Am I missing something?

    :)

    Requires a hard drive.

You have to have an external hard drive plug in. It does not have to be 360 just reformat it. External hard drives that plug in the USB are not recognized as a hard drive for the 360.

Okay. Can you put the drive on a PC and reformat it? Sometimes doing that make the console give you the option to reformat it.

Try this. I have had it work for some users. Disconnect the external drive. Then do a hard reset like this. Please follow the directions exactly. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the
power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart the console. Once it is back up and operational connect the external HDD and test for results. Let us know. Good Luck!

Solved it by moving it around and just generally trying different things till the choice to format popped up.
