External hard drive reboots when Xbox One is turned off

I got a pretty annoying problem with my external HD.

I just purchased an external drive to get more space for my games. I followed the requirements and the guide when I installed it. Everything went smooth until I shut down my Xbox One for the first time. Each time I turn off my Xbox One my external HD keeps
rebooting. It seems that it thinks my Xbox is never off. I have to manually unplug and replug my Xbox One to make it stop.

I use an Seagate Expansion Desktop 2TB STBV2000200 with USB 3.0.

I tried search but can't seem to find anyone else having the same problem. Any ideas out there that could help?

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

External harddrive for media not recognised by Xbox one

My external hard drive has been having issues since the new dashboard update. Now I have to turn on the Xbox two to three times to get it to recognize it. Also, yesterday, it wouldn't let me download a game to the external hard drive. I was able to download
it to the internal hard drive but only when the external wasn't recognized. For some strange reason, now when the external hard drive is working, I can't reset the console, I have to turn it completely off. Pressing the reboot option causes the Xbox to sit
with a black screen and never reboots.

  3. Xbox One will not recognize second external hard drive

    Hello All:

I have an xbox one. I have been using two external hard drives with it. Recently the xbox stopped recognizing that the second hard drive was connected. I figured the hard drive quit working, so I purchase a new 4tb Seagate Xbox External Hard Drive to
use. I plugged it in and the xbox did not recognize it either. I have done hard reboots, switch usb ports, switch cables, etc... and nothing that I do gets the xbox to recognize either the original second external hard drive that was working perfectly or
the new second external hard drive. Even when I remove the first external hard drive, and hard reboot, the xbox will still not recognize the either the new external hard drive or the drive that had worked well in the past as a second external hard drive.
I figure something is wrong with my xbox one. Please advise what I should do.

    Thank you!

  4. External hard drive reboots when Xbox One is turned off

Is you Xbox on instant on mode? Of so the only way to get it to shut down is energy saving mode. The problem is the xbox checks for updates and various other things alot on instant on mode and has to spin up the external to do it.

If you xbox is on energy saving mode already then try a hard restart (hold power button until xbox is off, wait 30 seconds then turn it back on).

Unbelievably annoying. My Xbox is on Energy saving mode, and this still happens with all of my external drives. Reboots every shut down, and I don't want to just disconnect the drive without it powering down properly.

OK so I think I may have just found a solution to my problem. It seems as though it might not have been my external drive causing the reboot issues after all. I use a USB multi-port adapter because the USB cable I currently have for my controller is too
short. So what I did was select 'shut down' and then pulled out the USB multi-port adapter directly from the Xbox immediately. It shut down fully. I think the USB multi-port adapter was draining the power in some unusual way because it wasn't splitting the
power properly. Hope this helps somebody!

  7. DC Wolfie I have the same issue with the same drive (the 4tb version)

I have the option set for the external drive to switch off when my console is off (in instant-on mode) which it does, until about 2 minutes later when it spins back up and stays on for anywhere between 10-20 minutes. Then it does it again a bit later - usually
2-3 times before it settles and stops for good.

It's really annoying since it's not at all a quiet drive...
