External hard drive questions. Will anybody please help!

My son now has two xbox ones (at different addresses) but only one external hard drive that he totes from house to house. My question is, is there a way that he can have a duplicate external hard drive so that he doesn't have to move it from house to house?
I'm thinking that if he has two external hard drives (one on each xb1) and plays a game at his mothers house, then when he comes to play the same game at my house, his progress/new weapons, etc. will not be on the hard drive at my house. Am I correct in thinking
this, or is ONLY the actual game itself stored on the external hard drive and not his progress/newly earned weapons, etc. Thanks a lot for answering.

    :)

If he's signed into Live when he's playing, all of his progress is automatically saved on the cloud and the hard drive would only have the game itself. So he would be fine having a separate hard drive on each console. Game progress will resync when he signs

Game saves are stored locally on the console and on Xbox Live, but the local saves are stored on the internal hard drive, not the external.

If both consoles are connected to Live, then the saves will be kept in sync across both console automatically, so he'll always have his latest save available regardless of where he's playing. The only time he might run into an issue is if he plays a game
offline and then the console detects that there's 2 versions of a save for the same game, but in that instance it asks which save you want to use.

If you get your son a second external, hook that up to a console along with his existing external and then copy everything from the existing external to the new one. Then, as long as both consoles he's using are connected to Xbox Live, his saves will be
kept in sync without him having to do anything. If he does end up playing a game offline on one console for some reason, once he's connected to Live again the console will detect that there's 2 saves, one newer than the other, and it will ask him which he
    wants to use.

The 7200 RPM drive should be a little bit faster when reading randomly from the disk, while 5400 may be a little slower compared. It could be up to 33% slower if the drives have the same density and platter count. (8TB may have 5 or 6 platters while the 4TB
    may have 3 or 4).

    Hello!

Best case scenario you might see a 20% increase in speed going from a 5400 to 7200rpm drive (or vice versa). This would also be assuming that both drives are traditional hard drives and hybrid solid state hard drives. Likely this number is going to be less
than this though for something like loading games on the Xbox. I would guess you're likely going to notice very little difference.
