External hard drive question

If I take out the xtern hard drive will it mess up the game storage memory? My son said if it is pulled out just to look at it then put it back I that it will mess up his game storage. I was just curious if that was true? He has a console at his dads
house and I thought he could just pull it out and take it over to his dads and plug it into his there. Trying to educate myself

External Hard Drive Question

Reason I am going to move my games and game save over to it so i can reformat the xbox 360 hdd. Because for some weird reason the internal hdd has some demos that show up and disappear on there on and was wondering if formatting the hdd would fix this problem?

Hi there.

I don't think you can because when you plug the drive into the console, the Xbox One will recognize that you've attached an external hard drive and will ask if you want to format it (and you need to if you want to use it with the console), which means that
the data on your drive will be erase.

So the answer to that question Lies in the make of the hard drive. So Although most external hard drives are compatible with xbox's some are not, and some do funny things like look to reformat every time they are reattached to an xbox. Sounds like your son
has the reformty one. I'd trust your son's experience on this matter as the way you usually find out if it compatible or not is one day disconnecting it and the loosing everything. That's a sad day. there is nothing Xbox can do about these hard drives as they
are 3rd party and they have no control over the design and programming of the devices, most work fine but some have issue's.
