External hard drive question - problem

So I bought
this hard drive. Straight out of the box I hooked it up to mt PC which is on it's last legs to download all photos and videos and documents etc. before my laptop dies. After that I hooked it up to mt ONE to put some games on it. When I plugged it in, it
said it had to format it, but in order for it to do that it would erase everything. Naturally I clicked "cancel" since I moved everything from my laptop to it.

The next day I removed everything from the external hard drive back onto the PC including the files that were preset on the drive.

Now when I hook the drive back up to the ONE to format it, it doesn't ask me that option. It is now only recognized as a media device. I do not have to option to move my games to it. I've tried everything including deselecting "when Xbox is off, turn storage
off" and doing a hard reboot.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

do you have that box checked that says "turn off external devices on standby" or something like that? That might be the issue.

My WD my book 3tb won't install games while in standby mode but it will if i leave it on. All the games download perfectly on my internal drive through.

Have you formatted it with your laptop after you removed the files see if that works also you could try using another usb port.

 

I noticed it had pre-loaded stuff on it as that been removed as well.

 

I put the pre-loaded stuff back on. I've tried all the USB ports on the console. The pre-loaded stuff was just from the factory.

I'll see if I can format it on the computer. It's just strange that it recognized it at first, but not now. I don't want to spend another 80 quid for another one.

So I formatted the drive on my PC and it still doesn't work. I can't believe I just wasted 80 euro.

 

Sorry to hear that mate I am using a 2tb Seagate with no problems, you can get some good deals on Amazon.
