External Hard Drive Problems, won't recognize

I've used my seagate 3tb external hard drive for about a month to store games with no problems at all. After signing in the other day my external hard drive no longer shows up on my xbox one. I've tried everything to fix it,even restoring my xbox. I've plugged
it into my pc and reformated it back to NTFS, but it doesn't show up on my xbox anymore when I plug it in. I can't format it to use as game storage and it doesn't read it as media storage. On my pc it shows up just fine, it's a brand new external,and it was
working just fine on my xbox until just the other day.

Xbox One will not recognize second external hard drive

Hello All:

I have an xbox one. I have been using two external hard drives with it. Recently the xbox stopped recognizing that the second hard drive was connected. I figured the hard drive quit working, so I purchase a new 4tb Seagate Xbox External Hard Drive to
use. I plugged it in and the xbox did not recognize it either. I have done hard reboots, switch usb ports, switch cables, etc... and nothing that I do gets the xbox to recognize either the original second external hard drive that was working perfectly or
the new second external hard drive. Even when I remove the first external hard drive, and hard reboot, the xbox will still not recognize the either the new external hard drive or the drive that had worked well in the past as a second external hard drive.
I figure something is wrong with my xbox one. Please advise what I should do.

Hey Doug! Sorry to hear about this - out of curiosity, have you tried plugging into a different USB port on your Xbox One? It might be unlikely, but for the PC to recognize it, but suddenly NOT the Xbox (after working fine for a while) it almost sounds like
an issue with the USB port....

Yeah I've tried all the usb ports with no luck, I just ordered another cable though gonna see if that works. If that doesn't work then I've run out of ideas lol.

This just started happening to me. Used my external SSD for the past two weeks. Restarted my console yesterday and now I cannot get my drive to show up. Also tried to do all suggested fixes and tried all 3 USB ports. Really frustrating!

Yeah I got the same thing. Hard drive no longer readable. Tried suggestion and tested on my mac, no funny noises. I'm in the beta too

Ah, in that case, anyone in the beta experiencing this issue should post over on the March Preview Update forums - the engineers keep a close eye on those forums for any new issues with the preview builds, and it's a quicker way to get beta-related issues
seen by Xbox Staff.

If you aren't in the preview, or even if you are, try holding the logo on the front of your console until it shuts down and unplug the power cable from the back for 5 minutes and check again, if you haven't already tried that.

I am having this same issue, I have a 2TB samsung drive which was working fine until just before the update. All my games are saved on it so I don't really want to format the HDD as I'll loose everything on it.

Same is happening to me with a Seagate 4TB, I got it in December of 2014 and it worked fine up until now and from what I am seeing it seems like you just need to purchase a new 3.0 usb cable.. Wouldn't say that is 100% because I have not seen that tried
from my eyes.

I have the same issue. Run the offline fix and the drive is back. 2 days later our is gone. Now I can't run the offline fix anymore.

If anyone else is have the same problem here is a link to reformatting external hard drives. Likely your hard drive will show as unrecognized so just follow that section. Pretty simple in the end.

Thanks for your reply! I did try that out, it does recognize other usb/external hard drives, so I'm thinking the problem is more with this particular hard drive that suddenly isn't being recognized anymore.

You have to have an external hard drive plug in. It does not have to be 360 just reformat it. External hard drives that plug in the USB are not recognized as a hard drive for the 360.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?
