External Hard Drive Power Question

Hello Everyone,

Not sure if many of you have expanded your Xbox One storage yet by adding an additional Hard Drive Externally, or if anyone has posted what I am about to suggest yet. I recently purchased a Seagate Expansion 5TB USB 3.0 SATA III External HDD. It
has no power switch, must be plugged into the wall & receive USB power in order to power on and operate. Unless the Xbox One is in Power Saver mode the drive will not turn off when the console is powered down. I enjoy the Instant On feature, it allows us to
purchase games through the Smart Glass App so the games will download & install while we're out at work or whatever. It's nice to have it all set up for when we get home to play right away. However with the Instant On feature, the Xbox One USB ports still
receive power (as they technically should so external storage can write games & updates automatically while we're away) when the console is powered down and keeps the external drive operating. So I guess I'm not really asking a question, but making a suggestion
to the developers of future Xbox One updates. Is there a way the Xbox One could be updated in the future to have some sort of smart USB power? Such as, Instant On will allow the USB ports to supply power to an External Drive only if a request to download/update
something has been requested? For instance, the console is set to Instant On & powered down (automatically download box is checked), the USB ports will also not be active or supply power. We make a request via Smart Glass to purchase a Game, Movie, Music,
Etc. The Xbox One recognizes that we have default storage set to the External Drive, USB ports are now activated to power the External Storage. The HDD turns on, download begins, finishes & installs properly. Once all operations are complete & the Xbox Remains
dormant of requests for a short period of time (5 minutes), it will then power down the USB ports which will remove power from the External Storage Drive, allowing it to power down. Any thoughts?

XBOX One External Hard Drive Questions

Id buy the external hardrive do the computer part where and then use it as the xbox hard drive. The external hard drive would be blank I just want to make sur eif I use it first on the PC I can then use it on the XBOX.

 

Power Supply Issues

Unplug your external hard drive from usb and then wait for the power supply light turn white, then hit the power button. It should work. After it's been turned on, plug your external hard drive back in

good idea to have usb that turns on and off when needed. I have a WD My Passport Ultra plugged into mine - its only powered by the Xbox usb socket and has a flashing blue led, which flashes all the time when its in its standby mode waiting for the xbox to
come on!
