Is there a way to save my save data on my internal hard drive and then save my game data on the external? I want to make sure my game saves are protected if my external hard drive crashes.

if adverts for "compatible" external hard drives are any indication it would seem the external storage patch should be coming some time soon although I note it wont be in the first patch released.

External Hard Drives: De-Formatting From Xbox One

I am going to tell you how to remove the formatting on a External Hard Drive from a Xbox One.

Requirements:

Xbox 360

1. Insert external hard drive into Xbox 360

2. Go into System

3. Go into Storage

4. Press 'Y' on External Hard Drive (Will be called "unformatted device")

5. Click on Format

6. The External Hard Drive will now contain the Xbox 360's formatting.

7. If you do not want the Xbox 360's formatting on the External Hard Drive, all you need to do is format the External Hard Drive on a computer. Otherwise, if you don't care that the Xbox 360's formatting is on the External Hard Drive, then ignore this step.

In My games & apps, you can view content by storage device. To do this, highlight a game or app, press the Menu button on your controller, and then select Manage game. You will then be able to move or copy content between storage devices.

Also, Shadow, be aware that your game saves are already saved in two locations - locally on your hard drive, and backed up to the Cloud. Even if something happened where you lost a save on your console (or had to restore your system due to a technical issue,)
the minute you play the game again, it will download the save from the cloud and you're good to go!

Also, game saves are ONLY saved on the internal drive, because according to the Xbox Support site, the game saves are part of the "system files" that go with the operating system, and the system files don't move to an external, only the game data.

So, in short, it looks like the system is designed to work with an external drive exactly the way you want it to!

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

As an idea for xbox one hard drives because they are internal and not external try plugging in an external drive to save or transfer all important games to external hard drive and leave not so important games onto internal drive
that way you can take them anywhere and not have hard drive failures with xbox one.

Are you running it off of the hard drive on the Xbox One or an external one? If you are playing off of the internal drive on the Xbox One then you may want to get an external for it because that is a known issue as far as the Xbox One hard drive and this
game.
