External Hard Drive Not Showing On Console

For some reason, my Xbox One is not recognizing my 2TB hard drive I've had plugged in since May. I've already tried switching USB ports, power cycling, and messing with some settings in Power and Start Up. I know the hard drive is getting power because the
blue light it has when it's running, but it goes off after about 5 minutes as if it's not in use. I've also noticed that when I've booted up the console, the "External hard drive is ready" notification hasn't been popping up. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    :)

  2. External hard drive problems

I was playing Xbox one evening and my console froze, so I restarted and tried playing again, most of my games were installed on my external hard drive. I tried playing every game I had on my external hard drive and none would start.

I completely reset my console and external hard drive, i installed games on my internal hard drive and they all work, but the games I installed on my external hard drive still do not work.

    External hard drive malfunction

Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.

External Hard Drive Not Showing On Console

Try doing a hard reset on your console. Hold the power button on the console until it powers down completely. Wait 5 minutes and power it back up and see if it is recognized. Not sure it will help but it is worth a try. Good Luck!

    Hi WCG nodad,

I understand you are experiencing an issue with your external hard drive's games not showing up on your Xbox One. You may want to try plugging in your external hard drive to another USB port on your console. Also, check out this article for troubleshooting

    USB storage

    Hello,

No, you cannot use a 1TB hard drive straight up with the Xbox 360 console. If you wanted to use it in an external hard drive sort of sense and use it for Movies/TV Shows/Music/Pictures etc then it would work as a 1TB hard drive. If you're planning on configuring
the flash drive to use with the console then the maximum amount of storage that you will be able to use on that 1TB hard drive is 32GB.
