    External Hard Drive not recognized


    What's up? I'm having major issues with my wd hard drive not being recognized. It was all along but suddenly it just stopped. I've tried everything that xbox suggested and nothing. Please any advice?

    Xbox One External HDD Revert Back HELP!

    Done it! No thanks to anyone on the forums! Extremely unhelpful!

    If anyone else is have the same problem here is a link to reformatting external hard drives. Likely your hard drive will show as unrecognized so just follow that section. Pretty simple in the end.

    Could you tell me if you are part of the Preview Program and are you receiving any Error codes? I would recommend performing a

    Power Cycle     on your console. Also check out this
    Support Page     and follow all the tips and solutions and see if that helps you out. Be sure to come back if you are still having problem.

    I have no error message and I've restarted and did a hard reboot on it multiple times.

    Sorry to hear it xJenx. This sometimes happens to me. Try the following steps to see if it helps

    1. Power cycle the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds until it shuts down.

    2. Unplug the console and let it sit for 5 minutes.

    3. Unplug the hard drive during that time

    4. Plug everything back in (be sure to plug the hard drive into a different USB port)

    Hopefully this will get everything back up and running for you.

    I did all that, restarted and moved the usb, still doesn't recognize it.

    I ordered a new cable. I'll post again if that works when I get it.

    Can you format the drive to something running FAT32 (Xbox 360 or a PC) If it still persists then can you provide the brand (Full brand name is preferred i see you put wd and i sadly don't know that brand) and amount of storage the External HDD has. Thanks,

    Requires a hard drive.

    You have to have an external hard drive plug in. It does not have to be 360 just reformat it. External hard drives that plug in the USB are not recognized as a hard drive for the 360.

    Perhaps your child's external hard drive is not working. Is your child's external hard drive recognized by the Xbox One? Does it turn on any lights?
