  1. external hard drive not detected on xbox one s

Hi guys, I hope you can help. I have a newly formatted external hard drive, it is powered through a wall plug. I have tried formatting it on my windows PC as NTFS and exFAT but when it is plugged in via USB 3.0 cable (supplied with HDD), neither one works
as the HDD is not coming up on the Xbox. I have tried all 3 available USB ports on the console, rebooted the xbox and changed the power setting. I have spent the last few hours on youtube/forums but can't find anything that works. Any suggestions would be
most welcome. Thanks a lot external hard drive not detected on xbox one s :)

    :)

    External hard drive malfunction

Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.

To make sure, have you had a chance to run through all of the suggestions in our

Also, do you see the same issue if you test with a different external USB storage device like a USB flash drive or another external hard drive? That'll help us narrow this down further.

Series X wont read some external hard drives

I have this same problem but with an xbox one. Right after the update the external hard drive wasn't being detected. Tried with a brand new drive with the same result.
Same here, a recent xbox os update broke compatibility with some external hard drives.

My seagate 5tb media drive stopped being detected by my xbox one s.

Drive checks out fine on a pc with no issues, however, xbox cannot detect the same drive.

I purchased a new 5tb WD external drive and after formatting on a pc it was not detected by xbox os also.

After 2 months of research I eventually fixed the extetnal drive not detected problem.

I used the Western Digital quick format tool to format the external drive and it finally solved the problem.

My 5tb media drive is now detected every time and the initial problem seems to be due to an xbox os update and certain partition types on extetnal hard drives.

xbox series x seagate from xbox one not showing any games when plugged into the series x

    Hi,

Do you still have your Xbox One and does your external hard drive still work on that console?

I have successfully connected both my Seagate 'Game Drive' and my external SSD USB 3.0 drives to my Series S without any problems. All my installed games show up fine.

The Series X/S supports the same external drives as the Xbox One/S/X support. If your drive isn't being detected it's probably become corrupted or has a hardware issue.

xbox one not recognising my hard drive

    Hi there agentdutywars17,

Thanks for reaching out here in Xbox Forums. I understand there is an issue with the Xbox console detecting the external hard drive. I recommend to try the following:

    • Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One
    • Try a different port on the Xbox console
    • Try using another cable that connects from your external hard drive to your Xbox console
    • Try a different external hard drive to help isolate the issue between the Xbox or the hard drive

Give this a try and let us know the results.
