External Hard Drive No Longer Works

The problem:

Today I attempted to play a game stored on my external HD. I was unable to, as the game needed an update. When I attempted to download the update, I was informed that their was insufficient space on my console. (the external HD still has >1 terabyte of free
space, more than enough to download the update).

My attempt to solve it:

I went into settings in an attempt find the reason why my update wasn't just being downloaded to my external HD. The xbox HD was completely full, but my HD could've easily supported the download, as only 35% of it's storage capacity was occupied. After a
few attempts to fix the issue I tried to see if formating my external HD would help.

The Issue I need help fixing:

As you may have assumed this wiped my external HD completely, removing over 700GB of stored games. I have since been working to get my console to start re-downloading all my games back onto the external HD, but it will not. The xbox recognizes that the device
has 1.8TB of free space, and that it's internal HD is full, but when I try to download my games, It says I have insufficient space. This means that although the xbox recognizes the external HD and it's free space, I cannot download games to it, as it tries
to download them to own it's internal HD instead. How do I fix this?

External Hard Drive Not Recognised By Xbox One S Upon Waking.

Nevermind.

I took the SSHD out of the enclosure and replaced the hard drive in my PS4 (increasing it's capacity from 500GB to 1TB). Then I took the 1TB external hard drive from my PS4 and made it the external hard drive for my Xbox and no longer have the issue.

It seems it was either the SSHD or the enclosure that didn't seem to quite work right as an external hard drive on the Xbox. Either way problem solved.

Hi. Connect the same way through the USB cable you have connected to your Xbox one. The PC may not be able to recognise it as it will be formatted for the Xbox, but hopefully it will give you a drive letter if you look ion my computer. It may be something
like E: but don't try to open it. Then on your desktop, search for CMD and when you find it right click and choose run as administrator. When the CMD box opens, type CHKDSK ?: /r replacing the ? With the drive letter. It may take a while but let it finish.
If your PC will not let you see the drive letter let me know. Hope this works.
