External Hard Drive no longer registering

Hi, I recently got myself an external hard drive which situates in a housing that mounts to the side of the console utilising the USB port for power. For the last two months everything has been fine but since the last update, my console no longer shows that
an external device is attached. Power is still getting to the unit as it has further USB ports on it to allow controller charging which still happens. I have removed the unit and connected it to a laptop which does register the HDD and I have tried all the
trouble shooting answers however still nothing. The only thing I can think is that the issue has been caused by the last update

my xbox isnt registering my external hard drive being plugged in i hard reset my console and i tried using a different usb port and everything the light will come on the hard drive blink for awhile then cut off

Hi. Connect the same way through the USB cable you have connected to your Xbox one. The PC may not be able to recognise it as it will be formatted for the Xbox, but hopefully it will give you a drive letter if you look ion my computer. It may be something
like E: but don't try to open it. Then on your desktop, search for CMD and when you find it right click and choose run as administrator. When the CMD box opens, type CHKDSK ?: /r replacing the ? With the drive letter. It may take a while but let it finish.
If your PC will not let you see the drive letter let me know. Hope this works.

 

Have you found an answer to this yet from anybody else? I have the same issue and I'm freaking out. I save most of my games to my external and now looks like everything is ready to be installed again like brand new.

 

This has helped some users. Disconnect the external HDD. Then hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in
and restart the console (DO NOT connect the external HDD yet. Once it is back up and operational connect the external HDD. Test for results. Let us know. Good Luck!

 

Hello !

Try a hard reset holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down, the console should detect the HDD again, if not... probably you need to fomat again the HDD to NTFS in the PC.

Parasimpatico- thanks. Tried a hard reset a few times now and nothing. Sucks but looks like I may need to format again ! Really won't be impressed if this happens every time a new update comes out.
