External Hard Drive no longer recognized

My external hard drive was working just the other day and now it is not.

First, I've done every step on this page: Troubleshoot External Storage Drive Detection | Xbox One External Storage

My hard drive is a WD 3TB hard drive and I moved everything from my Xbox to the external, including my save files. I tested this around 10/6/16. Now, apparently, it's not being recognized. I don't see it in the Storage selection at all, but I recently moved
all my stuff to it and tested it.

    • In the computer, it is recognized as an external storage space, but isn't accessible because it is formatted to the Xbox One.
    • The hard drive is active and powered on; it is not powered by the Xbox One.
    • When I plug it in, to all three of my USB ports, the activity light flickers for about 1 second.
    • The device is USB 3.0 and is a 3.5" hard drive in a USB 3.0 powered enclosure and was working last Thursday. For good measure, I ran Battlefield 4 off of it just to be sure it worked. This is very recently purchased equipment, just 35 days ago.
    • This hard drive was recently purchased and I have turned off "When Xbox is off, turn off storage."
Are the any solutions, besides formatting? I'm baffled that Microsoft thought it was a good idea to not make the storage interchangeable in the system. I'm upset that I am forced to have a 500GB unit when games are 15-40GB in size. I don't want to
format my hard drive because I've already downloaded all my games to it, including the massive amount of Battlefield. My Xbox One said it was updated on 10/6/16 at 9:11pm, and I am unsure if that is what caused it.

    :)

    This has worked for others:

Disconnect your External HDD. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart the console (DO NOT connect
your External HDD). Once it is back up and operational test for results. Now connect the HDD and see if it again recognized.

    Let us know. Good Luck!

It's possible the caddy itself is faulty and the HDD is fine, but to test that you would have to extract the HDD from the caddy and buy a replacement one (they are very cheap) however if it is a commercial external HDD their caddies are sometimes difficult
to dismantle and on occasion use custom connectors instead of the standard SATA interface on the HDD which would rule out a replacement unless you can buy a spare caddy of the same type/brand on eBay or something.

Any clicking or odd noises from the HDD means it's dead/faulty.

Yeah, it is a huge possibility that you are experiencing the same bug that many people are experiencing. Some of the Xbox's updates are making the hard drives unreadable for some reason, even the the hard drives may work on other computers or Xbox's. Sorry
to say but as of right there is no fixed, we had several topics on here since August but it looks that Xbox may of deleted them when changing over to the new format for the forums. You can try reformatting the Xbox but I don't know if that will help.

Gamepass uninstalls Gears of War 4 when I install it to external drive

Game Pass games use protected folders, and if format Windows, it no longer recognizes any game even if it is on another external hard drive or hard drive. If you install it on a Windows or PC you don't recognize any of the games.
