    External hard drive needing configured?

Hi, I went to Australia last year and my 360 was put into storage. As well as my normal 360 hdd, I bought an external one to install games onto. Only problem is, the usb external one says that it needs configured before it can be used?? It was fine before
it was out into storage, it has only been lying unplugged for 10 months.

Why would it need to be reconfigured, thus costing me all the data on it? I dont want to lose it all.

Only diference this time is that im not connected to xbox live, no internet.

    Any thoughts or solutions?

    :)

I received the new guitar hero for xmas. The system said that i needed the gold package for storage space. So I bought it and the cloud only has 2 gb of space when I need 8gb. I feel like I am out 60$ for nothing. How can I remedy this problem?

The cloud will only store game saves. If the game is needing extra storage space for game data, you would need to add an Xbox 360 hard drive or either an external USB hard drive or flash drive.

So you never once thought that the hard drive needing to reformat all the time could be a problem with the hard drive?

You can buy replacement official hard drives for a fraction of the cost of a new console. With the most recent update the 360 also supports external USB hard drives of up to 1tb.

If I were you I'd remove the faulty hard drive you have and either buy an official replacement or a USB external.

    External hard drive needing configured?

Sorry to hear it. This sometimes happens with external drives. To lessen the chance of this happening in the future format the drive on your pc before configuring it on the console.

Sorry you don't currently have access to the internet for your console but the games are not lost. If you can connect the console you can redownload the content by going to Settings>Accounts>Download History on the console.

Also, I see that you are currently a Gold member. You should consider a way to connect your console to the Live service so you aren't wasting your membership.

Uh oh. That sounds like an issue with the drive itself. Perhaps sitting there for so long may have corroded the leads or something internal. Can you try getting a different USB stick to use?

    Configuring External Hard Drive

Thanks, but can the drive be formatted without the 360 deleting everything that's already on my external hard drive, or will I just have to rebackup everything after the 360 deletes it and formats it?

    Configuring External Hard Drive

Movies are not played back from System Settings, Memory, but from the specific media playback panel.

If the drive is not formatted/partitioned as FAT32 or HFS+, the 360 will not be able to read it. Many large external drives come partitioned/formatted as NTFS from the factory. The 360 cannot read NTFS volumes.
