External Hard Drive issues

Hey guys I have a problem thats been troubling me for a while. I installed my external hard drive and was able to use it for games installing / uninstalling all normal for a few months then randomly i noticed a issue a month ago ive been trying to fix.

If i go to settings> harddrive both my drives show up my internal xbox hard drive, and my external WD 2TB.

The External is setup as the drive to install to by defualt. I can install a game no problem to either drive.

When I go to my games & apps menu It only shows my internal hard drive storage size at the bottom left of the screen instead of the external.

When I try to uninstall a game if its on the internal the next screen pops up that shows the collective size of the game and the save data and I can remove it as normal but if the game I am trying to uninstall has been installed on my external hard drive
when I select the uninstall fuction it just shows the save data for the game and not the game files themselves.

The games still load and play that are installed on the external drive so its not like the system isnt reading the drive because if it wasnt then it wouldnt load the game and it wouldnt be showing up in the system menu but for some reason the External Drive
is MIA from the games / apps menu.

Ive tried Hard resets, unplugging the power brick for 5 minutes, Ive tried unplugging the hard drive and resetting the system and then plugging the drive back up to a different USB port.

I am not sure what it is about the Xbox's OS but it does not like my Hard Drive

If you have an external hard drive could you try deleting a game and installing it directly to the console's hard drive to rule out issues with the external drive itself?

I'd first make sure the drive that you are using is performing properly and your data is still safe on it. A good way of checking the drive's health is downloading and running WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and
the extended tests. Here's a link to it:

Another thing that you can do is use a tool and get the raw values of the drive's S.M.A.R.T. status.

If the drive is full healthy, I'd suggest contacting MS's support and see what the guys there have to say about that.

I will give this a try and cover my bases. I am pretty certain the hard drive is good but just to be sure I will give this a try and see what the results are. The hard drive isn't old at all.

I can still install games on the drive, and play games on the drive it just doesn't show up in the games & apps menu.

I ran the quick test .. extended was going to take too long but it passed the quick test and smart check

Please edit your post and delete your serial number from it (you don't want it to be publicly available).

The extended test checks if the drive has troubles with its sectors so I'd let it finish (it does take a long time to complete).

By the looks of it so far the drive does seem healthy and the issues is probably lying elsewhere. MS's support should be able to give you further details and some useful tips.
