    External hard drive issues


    I have a WD 3.0 1tb external hard drive for my xbox one. I have been using this External HD for months with no issues. Today, my xbox suddenly no longer recognizes my external HD. I have done multiple hard resets and tried different USB ports on the console
    and the xbox one still will not recognize the hard drive. i have looked over multiple posts and havent found a resolution. I am a preview member and have a day one console. Can any one help resolve my issue please?

    If you have an external hard drive could you try deleting a game and installing it directly to the console's hard drive to rule out issues with the external drive itself?

    When you say your in the preview program are you currently testing the windows 10 dashboard? If you are I was also experiencing this issue and resolved it by wiggling the cables and reformating it.

    Have you tried plugging the hard drive into another device to make sure that the hard drive itself hasn't gone bad?

    Hey there wHiTeDuSt18,

    I would also suggest testing the drive on a PC and see if it works properly. I would recommend testing it with WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests. Here's a link:

    Also if you can do test the drive on another console. Contacting the live support may also be a good idea. External hard drive issues :)

    This has happened to me before. Try power cycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds and then unplug all cables from the console and let it sit for 5 minutes. That should solve the issue.

    Having the same issues. Could be something to do with the external hard drive maybe, not had time to troubleshoot yet though.

    Some ideas to try maybe?

    1. Make the Xbox One drive the primary drive, while the external drive is still plugged in

    2. Try with the external hard drive unplugged

    No idea if this will make a difference, but this issue only started for me since I got an external drive. Unless others are having the same issue with no external hard drive?

    May I know if an external hard drive is plugged into your console? If yes, have you kept the external hard drive unplugged when performing troubleshooting steps and check if the issue persists without external hard drive?
