    External Hard Drive issues


    Hello, I have an external hard drive I want to use to increase my storage space. I am having problems, my xbox one only recognises the drive as media storage.

    I have formatted, partitioned and ensured there is a usb 3 cable for the drive. My drive is a 1TB Western Digital My Passport Ultra. It's usb 3. We could not find the product you are searching. | Staples®

    I have tried the drive in all of the xbones ports. The drive works perfectly fine on my laptop with no connection issues and I have always been able to add/remove files without issue.

    Xbox brand new.

    Any idea how I can fix this issue?

    If you have an external hard drive could you try deleting a game and installing it directly to the console's hard drive to rule out issues with the external drive itself?

    Hey,

    I have the 2TB version so I know they work, so lets try a couple of troubleshooting steps!

    First, check to make sure its formatted for xbox

    1. Press the Menu button, select Settings, select System, then select Manage storage.
    2. Select your storage device, then select Format for games & apps.
    You will lose anything on the HDD! If you need to use it on your PC it can only be set up for media and not games.

    If that doesn't work there are some extra steps you can try
    here    .

    I formatted external HD then i plugged into pc transfered all of my movie and audio files but now console wont recognize the files at all it will recognize the drive but it shows nothing in it..

    CTRMamba24 you can't dual formatted the external HDD fir you going used it for the one. It either the one or the PC. But not both of them.

    Having the same issues. Could be something to do with the external hard drive maybe, not had time to troubleshoot yet though.

    Some ideas to try maybe?

    1. Make the Xbox One drive the primary drive, while the external drive is still plugged in

    2. Try with the external hard drive unplugged

    No idea if this will make a difference, but this issue only started for me since I got an external drive. Unless others are having the same issue with no external hard drive?

    May I know if an external hard drive is plugged into your console? If yes, have you kept the external hard drive unplugged when performing troubleshooting steps and check if the issue persists without external hard drive?
