    External Hard drive issues.

    Hi there,

My external hard drive has stopped working, with it having 1TB worth of games on it I really don't want to, or rather can't, redownload every game with every patch especially when I have a 200gb limit of data for my internet.

How do I make my xbox one recognise my hard drive? I put it in and the light comes on the hard drive but my xbox has lost the basic functionality of finding the *** thing.

I've done all the hard resets and so on you can do but it isn't working, Halo MCC is on it and I played it only this morning, meaning it's just magically stopped recognising the hard drive.

I'm just sick of spending hundred of dollars on stuff going wrong with my xbox

    :)

If you have an external hard drive could you try deleting a game and installing it directly to the console's hard drive to rule out issues with the external drive itself?

A couple of things to try if you haven't already,

Unplug the HDD do a reboot power up the console then plug the HDD in see if its recognized.

Try a new cable and different USB ports.

  5. I have the same issues with some games and apps.

Maybe the April 2015 updates would fix all these USB issues.

Meanwhile, power Xbone down completely. Power it back up.

Login to Xbone and Xbox Live. Plug in USB HDD in another USB 3.0 port.

I got only some games and apps to work this way. Make sure you login first before

    plugging in USB HDD.

    Hope t works.

If the steps above do not work you can try holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down then unplug everything from the console and let it sit for 5 minutes before connecting everything again.

    Hey guys,

Thanks a heap for the responses. I haven't had any luck as of yet and I've done all of these things.

I'll unplug everything and leave it overnight and see if that does anything.

I've noticed the harddrive turns on when I connect it to the xbox but the xbox doesn't seem to pick it up.

Yeah I've tried that, can't believe I spent so much money on a hard drive only for the xbox to ignore it now. I don't understand how it can work continuously for so long then just stop working. I hope it can somehow fix soon otherwise I'll need to spend
another $200 to replace it then give up my internet data for the month. I know I don't need to redownload it all in one month but if I don't i'll be waiting at least 5 months before I can finishing loading them all.

  11. If you have a PC or MAC it maybe worth it to get Minitool or Paragon disk tools (free) and then plug the USB 3.0 HDD on it. Run Minitool or Paragon and you should see the whole Xbox One partition as unallocated or other in filesystem. If so then more than
    likely the drive is fine.

Depending your USB 3.0 HDD brand try to go and search for firmware updates on the USB 3.0 HDD.

I would do a sector by sector backup of the USB 3.0 drive first to somewhere accessible on another HDD.

Hopefully the USB 3.0 HDD has a firmware update so update it.

Normally HDD firmware updates leave all data intact but there is risk.

After all plug the USB 3.0 back on Xbone and see if it works.

For me a backup is safer just in case.

Thanks for that LittleBigPlanet, as it works out the hard drive was unable to be found even on my laptop. I took it back to the store and they replaced it, sadly it means redownloading everything costing me quite a bit of data therefore money. That's unavoidable
I'm afraid, thanks for the assistance guys.

    Tv configuration App Not working

Having the same issues. Could be something to do with the external hard drive maybe, not had time to troubleshoot yet though.

    Some ideas to try maybe?

    1. Make the Xbox One drive the primary drive, while the external drive is still plugged in

    2. Try with the external hard drive unplugged

No idea if this will make a difference, but this issue only started for me since I got an external drive. Unless others are having the same issue with no external hard drive?

May I know if an external hard drive is plugged into your console? If yes, have you kept the external hard drive unplugged when performing troubleshooting steps and check if the issue persists without external hard drive?
