External Hard Drive issues

I keep hearing folks telling me about how I can use an external HD for the one. I have a Western Digital My Book 500 gig, I formatted it an then hooked it up to my One. But instead the one formating it like its supposed to it keeps telling me its an External
Media Storage device and wont let me put games or anything of that type on it and the system refuses to format it itself so that it works the right way, any suggestions on how I can fix this?

If you have an external hard drive could you try deleting a game and installing it directly to the console's hard drive to rule out issues with the external drive itself?

 

Hi there.

You can try going to Settings>Manage Storage. The device should be listed next to your internal hard drive, showing like a music note icon. If you hit the "Start/3Line" button all you'll get is a 'help' and 'switch profile' option. HIT THE "A" button instead,
and you should have the option "Format for Games & Apps".

A USB 2.0 drive can't be used for storage. You need to use a USB 3.0 drive.

hello everyone, I hope your all enjoying your gaming

I long for the days I was able to game with my friends and enjoying making them laugh and just having all night gaming party's. But sadly I had to get rid of my Xbox recently to help pay bills and make sure we don't go down the hole....

Every time I would get enough money saved to buy a new Xbox one... Something else would come up and keep me from happily getting another one... The way things are now I don't believe I'll ever honestly be able to get one again... I say this saddened... So
all I can say is friends hang on to your xboxs for as long as you can for you may never have the chance to get another again. Your friend harley

 

If anyone can help me I just began experiencing and issue with my external HD - 2TB WD external HD (came with a usb cord and I am assuming it is 3.0 (what it says on the box anyways). The issue is with loading a game that has been downloaded to the external
HD. When I fire it up to play it, the initial load picture comes up for about 20 seconds, then I get kicked back to my home page with an error code saying it "took to long to load". If I attempt to start the game up again, I get the initial load picture for
about 5 seconds, then get kicked back to the home page without an error code. Kind of like the game doesn't even want to try and load. Any help would be great.

Note: None of my internally stored games have given me this problem, this happened on 2 different games - ESO and Batman Arkham Knight. Thanks

You could try a hard reset to see if that helps. Just hold the power button for about 10 secs until fully powered off then switch back on.

If that doesn't help then you would be better off creating a new thread as it would be more likely to get noticed by someone who may he able to help.
