External Hard Drive issues

I have a Toshiba Canvio 2TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive that I have installed most of my software to. At first the hard drive worked perfectly with my system but I have been noticing more and more problems with my setup. Currently I am waiting for my Xbox
to boot back up after it froze on the main screen after attempting a download. The most common problem is that my Xbox locks up upon attempting to download any games, add-ons, or updates. More specifically, it stops switching between different applications
and only shows a black screen, forcing me to completely restart my system. Now my system will not boot up at all with my hard drive plugged in. I'm beginning to suspect that the contents of my hard drive might be corrupted or simply inaccessible, which would
be extremely frustrating since it took weeks to get my games installed on the hard drive.

I need some help, as I am seriously considering going back to deleting games and reinstalling them as I choose to play them again, which presents a bit of a problem due to my slow internet connection.

Xbox unable to load games at all

If you have an external hard drive could you try deleting a game and installing it directly to the console's hard drive to rule out issues with the external drive itself?

I was having issues like this as well, and I noticed that I one of my battlefield DLC's was present on both my hard drive and console, and it was kind of stuck installing one of them permanently. So I powered down my Xbox, disconnected the hard drive, and
deleted the dup from my console. then i reconnected the hard drive and deleted the DLC from it. I re-downloaded it, and it installed to my external, and everything seems to be working better. You might want to look into it.

Having the same issues. Could be something to do with the external hard drive maybe, not had time to troubleshoot yet though.

Some ideas to try maybe?

1. Make the Xbox One drive the primary drive, while the external drive is still plugged in

2. Try with the external hard drive unplugged

No idea if this will make a difference, but this issue only started for me since I got an external drive. Unless others are having the same issue with no external hard drive?

Do you have an External hard drive plugged into your console? A corrupted External hard drive may cause issues as well.

Can you try putting the game on an external Hard drive (USB3.0 and at least 256GB) to see if it's a hard drive issue?

The thing is I don't have an external hard drive and they cost like 70 bucks. I was just wondering if there was a way to fix it without the external hard drive.
