    External Hard drive issues with series x


    Every few days I’ll fire up my series x and I’m met with the following problems. 1st my controller won’t connect. Once I manually sync the controller again the next issue I find is my quick resume games won’t open or resume. Then I check my games and see that only games I stored on the internal drive are showing. The only way to fix is to unplug the hard drive and hard restart my Xbox however this deletes all my quick resume progress. Has anyone else had this issue? How did you fix it? Mine is a WD 4tb hard drive of that helps.

    My xbox series x boots to saying its offline, can this be fixed?

    The issue ended up being the external hard drive I had connected, it had system config data from a Series S I used to have. If I booted the series x without the hard drive attached no issues. I re-formatted the external hard drive and the issue went away.

    Hi,

    If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

    External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.

    Hi,

    External hard drives are not fast enough for Xbox Series X|S titles. Unfortunately you can't play these games off slow USB external hard drives. They need either be installed internally or to an optional Xbox Series X|S Expansion card.
