External Hard Drive Issues for Xbox one

I recently got an external hard drive for more space on my xbox one. It was successfully formatted and i was able to install a game on it no problem, can play the game etc. However anytime the external hard drive is on and connected to my xbox one, I am
not able to connect to the internet nor xbox live. As soon as i turn off or disconnect the hard drive it re-establishes my connection to xbox live perfectly fine. I have no idea what is causing this and if there's any way to fix it as I would like to be
able to download/install more games without having to delete what is already on my xbox's internal hard drive. Any help/advice would be greatly appreicated. Thanks!

Xbox one file system

Hi

I don't know what file format Xbox One uses with external hard drives but when you first connect a drive the console should offer to format the drive for games (If it meets the specs), With my Xbox One I have both a 2TB and 4TB external hard drives connected
and working without any issues for playing games.

Hard Drive Storage Limit

if adverts for "compatible" external hard drives are any indication it would seem the external storage patch should be coming some time soon although I note it wont be in the first patch released.

Sorry to hear it. Which brand drive are you using? Is it USB 3.0 compatible? Have you tried power cycling the console for by holding the power button for 10 seconds until it shuts down?

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

Are you running it off of the hard drive on the Xbox One or an external one? If you are playing off of the internal drive on the Xbox One then you may want to get an external for it because that is a known issue as far as the Xbox One hard drive and this
game.

Having the same issues. Could be something to do with the external hard drive maybe, not had time to troubleshoot yet though.

Some ideas to try maybe?

1. Make the Xbox One drive the primary drive, while the external drive is still plugged in

2. Try with the external hard drive unplugged

No idea if this will make a difference, but this issue only started for me since I got an external drive. Unless others are having the same issue with no external hard drive?

I understand you are experiencing an issue with your external hard drive's games not showing up on your Xbox One. You may want to try plugging in your external hard drive to another USB port on your console. Also, check out this article for troubleshooting
