  1. External Hard Drive Isn't recognized for media

    Hey guys,

So I had an old external hard drive (My Passport WD 500GB) laying around and decided to throw all my media (songs, tv shows etc.) on it to plug into my xbox. I wanted to have everything in the same place. I started this process a few days ago and it's
been a mess. After transferring all 250GB of data onto the drive I plugged it into the xbox and it wasn't recognized at all. So I reformatted the drive into a different format and moved everything over again. Unfortunately I got the same result. I reformatted
again to a FAT32 format and now the xbox recognizes it as potential storage (little box pops up saying external storage is ready) but when I go to the media player it doesn't show up. I have a 128GB USB that is in FAT32 format and works like a charm. What
    am I doing wrong?

EDIT- In addition, the external drive pops up in the "storage" part of my settings for the xbox but when I click on the "view contents" option it takes me to the media player which says there isn't a device plugged in.

    :)

    XBOX One Media Player

I have a 2 TB external hard drive from Seagate that I use for video file storage. When I plug the drive into the console it is recognized and it says at the bottom "external storage device detected; hold X to launch". When I hold the home button it launches
the media player but then the media player says "no storage device detected". Is there a size restriction for media player that is causing my hard drive not to be recognized?

Ps: the drive is formatted FAT32

External Hard Drive Not Recognized Anymore

Thanks for your reply! I did try that out, it does recognize other usb/external hard drives, so I'm thinking the problem is more with this particular hard drive that suddenly isn't being recognized anymore.

Watching movies on Xbox One S

That hard drive must be designated as a media drive. Not formatted as Xbox drive. Because Xbox recognizes SSD it immediately recognizes it as a media drive. Here is troubleshot for external
    hard drives.
Have you tried to start movies from USB drive? Remember, in settings on your Xbox that drive must be designated as a media drive. You can try reformated it again on your PC and then plug it in again on Xbox. One other thing. If your HDD is
recognised as media drive on your Xbox, you can format again on your Xbox and set it as media drive again. System/storage - select your media drive and pres a. Then formate it as media drive again. And finally, the question that supposed to be first. Is your
HDD recognized as a media drive? Is it recognized at all?

Have you tried to change USB ports to plug it in? And last, try a power cycle console described here on the bottom of the page and try plug
    back in your HDD.

    Issues with installation

I'm gonna be more specific: the game doesn't accept installation on external storage. Whether it's flash drive or external hard drive, the game isn't meant to install on external storage connected through USB just like Need for Speed Rivals on Xbox 360.
You need to install it on an internal hard drive (media hard drive). The link I provided to you aren't external hard drives; they're internal hard drives for the Xbox 360:

    Requires a hard drive.

You have to have an external hard drive plug in. It does not have to be 360 just reformat it. External hard drives that plug in the USB are not recognized as a hard drive for the 360.
