  1. External Hard Drive isn't detected by Xbox One

I have a WD 3TB External Hard Drive I got last year. I've had no problems with it until a month ago. When I turn on the Xbox it won't detect it until I reformat the drive on my computer, it's then detected by the Xbox again and I install all my games again.
Then a few days later, the Xbox doesn't detect the Hard Drive again. I've repeated this process four times, and I've tried many ways to get the Xbox to detect the Hard Drive. Such as removing and then reconnecting the drive, plugging the drive into a different
usb port, holding the power button for 10 seconds on the front of the console, nothing works except to reformat the Hard Drive, and even then it stops being detecting after a few days. I keep my Xbox on energy saving mode, except for when I install my games
again, I'll leave it on instant on mode. My Xbox still detects my flash drive I have for music, so I don't know if this is a problem with the Hard Drive or with my Xbox One.

    :)

    External Hard drive not recognized

My brother's external hard drive that he has had for about 9 months is no longer detected by his Xbox one. Is this happening to anyone else? Any advice?

    External hard drive malfunction

Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.

External Hard Drive isn't detected by Xbox One

That’s a tricky one. The only way to find out if it’s the hard drive or console is to try that hard drive on a different console or use a different hard drive for a few days. If I had to guess I’d say it’s the console.

Here are a few things to try. Let us know if any of the solutions in the below link help.

Recently bought a external hard drive, that my Xbox one won't read.. Help!?

    Hi GOLD T0SSERS,

Sorry you're hard drive isn't working with your console. Can you post the make and model of the drive? Check out

    this link
for external drive detection troubleshooting. Make sure that the drive is USB 3.0. If you've verified compatibility, one thing you may want to try is formatting in a Windows machine as NTFS, and then putting it in the Xbox console.

keep having to re-install disc 2 for Halo 4 - usb

There's no way to make it simply compatible. If the console isn't detecting the hard drive, try and make sure that the hard drive is formatted in FAT32. If that doesn't work, try a different external hard drive or another USB Flash Drive.

xbox one not recognising my hard drive

    Hi there agentdutywars17,

Thanks for reaching out here in Xbox Forums. I understand there is an issue with the Xbox console detecting the external hard drive. I recommend to try the following:

    • Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One
    • Try a different port on the Xbox console
    • Try using another cable that connects from your external hard drive to your Xbox console
    • Try a different external hard drive to help isolate the issue between the Xbox or the hard drive

Give this a try and let us know the results.
