    External Hard Drive Interfering with Wifi


    Recently I started having internet problems with my Xbox One S. I got a new router about 6 months ago, and no problems occurred, so I don't think it has anything to do with the router. Normally when downloading or updating games I get around 100mbps, but now I'm lucky if I can get the games to update/download at all. The only solution I've found is to unplug my external hard drive. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Would you please provide us with further information regarding this issue such as the exact external hard drive that you have (Seagate, WD, Toshiba, Samsung etc), the storage capacity, if this occurs on other Xbox consoles or with other external storage devices on the same console ? if you encounters any error codes ?

    What is the brand of your external hard drive? Certain brands sometimes don't work with Xbox one.

    It sounds like a power issue to me... Does this HD have an AC adaptor that powers it using 110v current or is it powered via USB?

    Hello :)

    Have you tested if that WD External drive works properly on a PC? Is that a WD My Book or a WD Elements Desktop drive?

    I would consider testing the drive's health with
    WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic     and see if the device is operating properly.

    Are you using the same power outlet to power both the console and the External Drive? I would try using different power outlets.
