External hard drive instead of internal hard drive

Hello,

Out of curiosity, is it possible to use an external hard drive connected to one of the USB 2.0 ports on the back instead of an internal hard drive? Is it possible to install games and download content just like with the internal hard drive? Are there any
restrictions to having an external hard drive? I have an X360S.

Not sure , I'll check and let you know what I find.

ok , I found out how to do it . Find the settings then go to System then from System find the column that has Storage listed at the top. Underneath it should have "Manage Storage" . Then when I click on that it says Storage Select a device to see its options and I have an Internal and my formatted X box external hard drive . Move the Highlight from the Internal to the External hard drive and click the "A" button on the controller and it brings up a list
View Contents , Install here by default , Rename , and Format.
So just highlight the Install here by Default and your games will install on the External hard drive instead of the Internal.

External hard drive only

My official Xbox 360 internal hard drive is faulty. I was wondering if it would be OK to take it out and use an
external USB hard drive instead. Has anyone got any experience using only an external hard drive with an Xbox 360?

You can use an external hard drive. You can put games, saves, & dlc on it. Just plug one in and follow the setup instructions. The 360 will format it so if you have anything on it already, it will get deleted. Once done formatting, you are ready to use it.

You are using transfer, which is to move the contents of your internal hard drive to the external hard drive instead of copying, you do not need to manually delete the contents of the internal hard drive (because they are already on the external hard drive).

Could be the external hard drive causing the issue then it won't be the first time I seen errors appearing after updates on external hard drives. Try installing it on internal drive instead if you can?.

Is this game stored on your Internal Storage or External hard drive? If it's on your External Hard drive kindly move it to your Internal Storage then remove the hard drive. This is to check if it's due to the external hard drive.

Robert are you using an external hard drive? I had this happen to me and it was on the internal instead of the external game drive. Definitely something to check.
