    Xbox one file system

    Hi

    I don't know what file format Xbox One uses with external hard drives but when you first connect a drive the console should offer to format the drive for games (If it meets the specs), With my Xbox One I have both a 2TB and 4TB external hard drives connected
    and working without any issues for playing games.

    Can someone that has some computer or tech knowledge tell me if the external usb 2.0/3.0 hdd be faster or slower than the internal hdd for xbox one.

    I'm pretty sure that a 7200rpm External HD spins faster than your internal ONE drive.

    @floorboss

    The internal is 5400RPM. using a 7200RPM or even an SSD will increase performance. I seen a thread on neoGAF where one user tested a SSD and seen a 30-40% performance increase in load times. a 7200RPM will probably give you a smaller 10-15% increase

  9. A 7200rpm external HD is faster than the 5400rpm internal drive but the 7200rpm external drive is bottlenecked by USB 3.0, as data transfer speeds are faster through SATA ... I think.

    WD 3TB USB 3.0 external drive here. Works like a charm.

    I'm using a Touro Mobile Pro. The reason I bought it is because it's one of only a few 2.5" drives that are 7,200 RPM rather than 5,400. I wanted something portable and USB powered too.

    @Floorboss - An external should be faster in most cases. The Xbox One's internal hard drive is a 5,400 RPM laptop drive connected via a SATA-II interface. Also, the drive may be doing other things other than just loading games, for example, it may be recording
    Game DVR video at the same time.

    An external HDD is not bottlenecked by USB 3.0. The external drive is only being used to load game and app data. Also, you can buy faster drives than the one in the Xbox One. Any 7,200 RPM drive should be faster than the Xbox One's drive, but also large
    capacity 5,400 drives will be faster too due to higher areal density/bigger cache.

    @LOL AT UR SKILL - SATA-II has a maximum transfer rate of 300 MB/s, which is plenty for a mechanical hard drive, but would bottleneck an SSD unless it was an old, slow one. USB 3.0 has a maximum transfer rate of 625 MB/s.

    I'm using a Gforce/3 Fantom 3TB 7200RPM USB 3.0 hard drive. Xbox one recognized it right away and after a quick format I was transferring my games over with no issues.
